As long as you keep it cold you can bring anything out into the woods. Just time your meals as to how long they keep..... I have done everything from steak to the usual campfire cast iron meals with dumplings....wow they are great for the fall camping..... this would be a good post to see lots of pics of the camping meals.

Subbed for future meals. Everything sounds way better than ramen noodles and pb&j

Hobo Dinners are the way to go! Just put hamburger meat, potatoes, onions and peppers in aluminum foil and cook for about 20 mins over a fire. You have self contained package ready to throw on the fire plus you already have the plate.

Geez people here go all out for lunch! Depending on length of trip our lunches range from easy to super easy:

I don't blame you if you don't want to try my "easy" option cause it sounds iffy but it's really good:

Easy: get some summer sausages (don't need refrigeration) and cut them into fourths lengthwise, some mozzarella cheese sticks and 8-inch burrito shells, put 1 length of sausage (be sure to remove the casing after cutting/before eating) and one string cheese in a shell, wrap it and eat it! If for some reason you get a fire going at lunchtime (unlikely for me) you can grill it a bit, browns the shell and melts the cheese--hellaciously good.

Super easy: Granola bars and trail mix.

Don't overthink lunch, dinner is where you put time in preparing stuff.
