How would one choose a kayak? I want one mainly for the lake. I know there are different styles so I'm hoping someone here can clarify them and lead me in the right direction.

If I was going on the river trip it would hold 2 people and the dog and lots of gear but not on a trip maybe 4. Looks like I'm not going to make it north until this fall, Have a lot of work this month that I can't pass up. Have to make hay when the sun shines

Do you have a local outfitter that sells them?

We actually sat inside several of them and got to paddle around in one before making a purchase. Sit in them, adjust foot pedals, see how it feels... put life vest on and see how it feels.

My kayak is actually slightly too big for me (so they tell me). The smaller ones were too 'cramped' where my feet were, so I was more than happy to go with the bigger size. They also size you for a paddle, as there are different lengths.

My husband had to use the bilge pump already. He flipped out once trying to get in. And we had a race and I kicked his butt!! :D
Hell, I couldn't last 10 hours (not sure I'd want to be out that long!!)

We have been scouring the videos..... and we've been trying to practice the techniques. I think the more we get out, the easier it'll become.

Me and my girlfriend went out for a little paddle this morning, nothing major, about 4 miles total. It was her first time, and she fell in love with it. We are gonna plan a trip over to Florida to a couple natural springs for a camp and paddle.

That's brutalguyracing. Hit him up. I'm not sure what it is. All I know is ask for pics of his roof if he recommends it

Wheeling in trees with yaks on a roof rack is priceless :D

its a yakama roof rack with some $30 ebay racks....
used them a few times and for some pretty long rocky trips...
i love my racks...i use them for snowboards in the winter, fishing poles in the summer, and kayak racks for the summer....
this i sone of the most recent pics.....
yes my roof has a few dents but i do things with my truck most others dont.....
i have had a rack torn off the truck by some trees... but the damage i got from that is minor at best....and can be avioded.....
the stock roof racks can be folded in as to not be as much of a chance ripping off...BUT
any roof rack i would ever get has to be a round cross bar
with a round bar anytime you smash into a tree with the snowboard rack or kayak rack they just fold down.....
    and that is great...trust me.....
all in all i love my yakama setup...i reversed the winddeflector backwards so i dont have to see there name..
as i hate running any companys name i spent good money for without it being my choice.....
also side note bars can be removed from truck in less the 2 mins...but im lazy and dont have time to when wheelin
    [IMG]
the kayak racks i got i won a bid and got them cheap.but they were these
    but in black

I find the less you think about what you are doing, the quicker your body adjusts and finds it's natural movement. My only advise is to make sure you have the foot pegs adjusted right. It also helps to move them in or out a notch every hour or two. knees should be bent.

Finally got some photos up on our website. We do a lot of geocaching and there are many geocaches on islands & stuff that you can only kayak to. Great fun!

Looking for a put-in. My husbands car with yakima bow down racks. They're great because they fold down and he can get under the garage door.

Nice pictures Janster. My wife might be looking for a Thule rack. Could you post a picture if your husband is interested in selling? Thanks.
