Good luck man! I did a 52 mile ride last year and this year I'm shooting for the whole length of the ARBT near Sacramento this time, which I think is 64 miles round trip.

I posted this as it's own thread in the sports thread section, but I'm thinking there isn't really going to be an answer.

Anyways, has anyone here ever done an Ironman or a half Ironman? I've done numerous sprints and olympics and want to get into the longer distances. I'll be doing the Raleigh half next June and was seeing if anyone had any tips for me. Thanks in advance.

Here's what I've got right now. It's a Trek 2.1alpha, had to throw the taco in too:D

I did the Mt. Greylock, Mass. climb last week. 8 miles with about 3500' of elevation. First real climb, took me a while and I stopped 4 or 5 times on the way up. Took a nice 40 mile ride through the hills on the way back to the truck. Used my lightest bike, still no lightweight at about 24 lbs, Trek 660 from 1985 with updated drive train.

Thats a legit race, one of my (hot) teachers did a half one last fall and she really enjoyed it. She also said she didn't really know how to swim, but she survived :p

One of the guys I will be riding with when he gets out of school says he wants to do a half this coming winter. Training with him will be a great excuse to put some miles on my bike :D

I did that 65 mile ride on Monday and part of my privates is still semi numb. I hope to hell the partial numbness I have goes away at some point, like the minor carpal tunnel does/did. After that ride, I tilted my seat further downward in the front to take more weight of the perineum. I spent more time on my aero bars than I planned on because my sit bones were aching, which created more issues for 'other' stuff.

At mile 60 I started getting a nifty Charely Horse in my bottom thigh muscle but other than almost killing myself it was fun. I really hauled ass the first 24-35 miles. Then I started to drag ass the last 15 or so. I don't think I even averaged 15 MPH on the last 15 miles.

If I still have problems with that area may have to try one of those Adam split nose seats. Has anybody used them before?

Just bought a Salsa Vaya 3. Love it, it's no race bike but has tons of character and great components. Yesterday I put it through the test and did 92miles round trip (2750ft of climb averaging 15.1mph) along the Washington & Old Dominion trail. First half I was cruising probably thanks to my pre workout supplements but at about mile 75 I fell off hard. I ate and had a mid ride coke as well. Nonetheless I'm sure it'll improve.

I too experience numbness in my groin. I tilted my nose down in hopes of helping the situation. If that does not work I'm gonna try a slit center seat

If any of you deep rim guys use 80mm tubes...I may have accidentally picked up some due to my negligent box reading skills :spy:

If its just a little hole I'd just throw an extra patch on it and call it good, for a legit tear I wouldn't trust a dollar, especially with some of the roads I take :D

It's not "thick cut bacon" either, probably the thickness of the thinnest piece on your wallet :p

Faster than I could have done :D nice job.

Well I broke down and ordered one of the ISM Adamo 'road' model seats. Seeing how my nads and friends are not 100% back to normal feeling and I havent been on a bike since last Monday (11 days ago), it was time to find a seat that doesnt make stuff go numb for days and days after a long ride.

I decided there is no way in hell I can use my aero bars with a traditional seat. Even on the hoods, with the seat angled down a hair (almost level), I feel like I'm squishing stuff that shouldn't be squished, so I know it's never gonna work with a traditionial seat, unless its at a 45 degree angle but then I would just slide off the front, add more weight to the wrists and get lower back problems.
