    for me its the accomplishment of finishing, seeing yourself improve and get better, and knowing that its really making you in shape. having a strong cardiovascular system is one of the most important aspects of stayng healthy. after that many other things just fall into place.

    I found that the requirement for army rangers is to run 5 mile in 40 minutes! That is now my goal... Gotta knock 2 minutes and change off my time!!

    That is SMOCKING!!! Holler if you'll need a training schedule or any help! One thing I can recommend is to incorporate hill/trail running as part of your running schedule.

    I will! Trail running might be tough around here but I'll keep my eyes open for good trails. As far as a training schedule, I just go and run, if it's too easy I run faster until I slow down.... Not very smart running I know, but I have ok endurance and I won't kill my self too early. I can maintain 9:00 minute miles for 8 miles so far... Going to try 10 miles on my next set of days off. I'm going to give a half marathon a try this year and it is on fathers day so I have some time. But if there is something I can do that would help shave those two minutes off easier than just trying to run faster, I'm all ears!

    O.K., so I didn't run the whole 14 miler; big effing deal. I did ran 13.4 on 2:05:35, which means that I would've done the 13.1 in 2 flat or better. I say mission (almost) accomplished.

    The weather was fairly hot and incredibly humid + we where on tornado/lightning watch the whole time.


    There are a number of things that I can prepare better for the actual race, and I still have 15 days to fix them!


    Hydration: Drink more electrolyte the day BEFORE.

    Food: Eat something a bit more substantial than a banana and a cup of yogurt (whole milk organic) with raw honey. Really should've had a PB sandwich also.

    Rest: Go to bed EARLIER...

    Lube: Forgot to lube the "family jewels", after mile 10 I wanted to walk!

    1) Unfiltered and non heated honey. Mostly found by local honey producers or health food stores. It's honey as it comes out of the honey comb. DELISH!

    2) Virgin Coconut oil, same thing I use for my salad dressing, or tan lotion, or insect repellent. It also works for people with dry skin, like me.

    Im an avg runner I guess, I can do 8 miles at a 9min pace, I do it probaly twice a week and run a mile to warm up at the gym 3 days a week. I live near Kennesaw mtn, and some days I run the trail up it, its pretty steep but I dont run down, my knee hurts when I do steep downhills.

    Anyway, I have an extremely high arch in my foot, I wear like a 6.5 EE, I need a good trail shoe, can anyone recommend anything? I got a pair of Vasque Blur's but they were terrible and killed my feet after 4 miles. What do you all think of the new balance minimilists type shoes for trail running?
