I will be running my first Marathon in August 2013 at the age of 25. My dad has done Ironman 10 times and Ultraman also.. I have been asked over and over again by my dad to do it so this year I caved and we are doing a family relay. My sister will take on the swim my dad the bike and me the marathon.

Im exited and nervous but it will be a good goal to set and achieve

what I discovered this year is that your feet actually grow (some would say flatten :)) w/ age, I've been a men's 9 for years and they simply were too tight in the toe box (talking same shoe). Went to a 9.5 and all is good.

for trail running you definitely want to err on the roomier toe box

Ive had these shoes less than a year! haha Ive been a size 10 for 14 years now and all my other shoes still fit. Im wondering if I can stretch these out a bit. Untill then I guess ill add some tape or something to my big toes.

The good thing is my birthday is the 11th and my wife is getting me some new running shoes.

EDIT: I had been wearing socks with them. Im going to try barefoot in them and see how that works.
    This is what I wear

I ran a grand total of 6.5 miles last week.

Got a cold while in FL, which turned into a sinus infection. Treated it myself with: coconut kefir, kombucha tea, homemade chicken soup (made from scratch, even the "chicken stock") with lots of garlic and ginger, chewed raw ginger and a coconut oil/peppermint oil mix (which is directly placed in the nostrils, to clear congestion)

No doctor visits and I'll be running tomorrow VERY SLOWLY.

not to rub it in :D but I had a good week 45.5 miles, culminated w/ a grueling 18 miler on Sunday. this snow is really making running much more difficult, clearly reflected in my times- I have to keep telling myself that this extra work will pay off :)

So what are everyone's reasons for running? Anything besides just "getting in shape"? Some of you guys log crazy amounts miles.

my motivation for running is so I can get together with friends and run long distances in beautiful places- like our Rim2Rim2Rim this past spring. I've got a whole slug of bucket list runs I want to do. I'm doing races and have several on tap for 13, but they are secondary to these long fun runs.

staying in shape is definitely a nice side benefit, but I think a few studies have shown that running 25 mpw is sufficient for being in optimal shape, anything beyond that is usually with something specific in mind.

Hell yeah on the R2R2R! A couple buddies and I have that planned for this spring. I'm really looking forward to it and checking that one off the bucket list!

I need to step it up! haha

Thanks for the reply. I never liked running untill recently. Probably bc it was always on a track or in the gym...not fun. I Love running outside and on the trails. I started out mtn biking our local trails and now I just run on them mostly.

I'm relatively new to running as well (about year and a half)- I've always liked hiking/backpacking and trail running was just a great way to get out more and cover more country when I needed to :)

I try my best to avoid running on roads/tracks/treadmills- occasionally the weather forces me on a treadmill/stairmaster- makes the next trail run even that more enjoyable :D

It started as a way to get in shape while I was unemployed and applying to police departments accross the country.

Then I joined a running group... And my dating life has NEVER been better. Even better than college!!!

Now that I've been re-employed for 28 months, it is a great way to burn stress of.

My dating life is still awesome, man I wish I discover this shit when I was in college!!!

Well I used to be a tread mill junkie 6-8 years ago. A friend who just got a clean bill of health a few months ago from beating cancer said HEY wanna run a half marathon. I said sure... how long is that???

Really I just love the feeling of being tired after a long run. Well a long run for me is 10 miles.

I just started running on Monday 1-7-2013 I want to get in shape. I just started the couch to 5K app. Did about 10 miles this week... holy crap are my legs sore, but not to bad for my first week. I also dug out the MB and did a 10 mile ride last Saturday. This weekend I will be resting up and hitting it hard next week. I have to say it's work at first but, I have been enjoying it.
