Random question but does anyone use Brooks Ghost GTX trail runners. I paid a decent prioce for them and they creak (like a rocking chair). I thought they just needed to break in but even after putting 400 miles on them, still creak. Love the shoe, but there is nothing ghost about them. Anyway, these are my first Brooks (treated myself) and I;m not sure if this is common or am i just happier with my old $60 nikes?

no Ghosts, but I have a pair of Pure Grits (300-ish miles) and no creaking out of them, actually a pretty nice shoe- a little light for rougher, rockier stuff, but for most trails, just about right

Been averaging 30+ miles for the last 4 weeks, but now I'm doing my long runs on sidewalks/streets and man o man; my legs/feet much prefer trail surfaces...

These are my new runnjng shoes.

Project element pearl Izumi. More of a lesser known brand but man are they comfortable so far. I will say they are lighter than what I'm used to and have less cushion. My right new started hurting on an 8 miler i just finished. I also liked the Nike paugases 29 and I may get them for long distance and the element as short.

Or it could be the new insoles I'm trying to help with my flat feet.

Here are my Saucony Kinvara 3's (google pic since my phone's dead).....these things are light as can be and the 4mm drop make mid-foot striking feel natural. Still plenty of cuchioning to make long distance feel just as good as short. My Nike LunarGlide 3's were so heavy and bulky they felt like I was running in quick sand.

another 40 mile week 5/5.5/6/10.5/13.5; highlight was todays run (and hike) up to Casey Peak- gains 4000' w/ a little better than half that in two miles!

we were really surprised when we got up top that there was the remnants of an old lookout (30's)- finding out very little known about this lookout, neat nonetheless

That's awesome you and your lady run together......wish mine did!

Gorgeous scenery there! Nothing but brown dirt and burnt grass here, lol! Still 105 with tons of humidity. Can't wait for it to cool off so I can get back to training more outside.

Are those Kinvara TR's? im looking for a good trail shoe!

I was inspired by some trail running videos on youtube (Anton Krupicka mainly) and decided to do some trail running Saturday morning to supplement my marathon training. Put in about 5miles (planned on 3-4 mile loop but got lost a little). My legs are beat up and had to take a few days off. Staying quick on my toes and really digging in on the climbs blew my calves up. Was cool to be out in nature in the mountains and saw what looked like a 70lb coyote about 20 feet from me.

May have to chill on the trails if its going to take away from the long road miles I need to put in? :(

Pearl Izumi N2's- I took a little bit of chance as I only had about 40 miles on them, but finished up the Elkhorn 50k Saturday w/ them. They did fabulous, 7500' of elevation gain (there was one stretch of nearly 4 miles- all steep uphill!!!), lots of rock and technical trail, numerous creek crossing- I'd estimate my feet were wet for over half the race. Not sore feet, no bruising, not even a hot spot. I wish my stomach performed as well- I was deathly nauseous from about 14 miles to 24 miles (hurled twice). That was not fun
:(, but I finished, so after getting my stomach settled and some food in it- all was good :)

most folks I take out trail running, soon seem to share the same addiction- nothing against running on the roads, but pretty tough to beat trails for views

Gotta love running in the mountains! Any of you been to the incline in manitou springs, just outside Colorado Springs? It's old railroad ties that go up the side of a mountain. Gain 2000 feet in a mile. It's pretty ridiculous.

I hear ya Big Sky. I have started trail running myself, really starting to like it.

I did 159.4 miles last month ! Only about 30 of them were trail but heading to Tahoe this week so gonna run while my son is mountain biking at North Star. 7000-8000 feet lungs are gonna be burning.

    Congrats on the 50k!!!

Make sure to hit up some of the TRT while you're up there. Some of the best trail running in the west.

in shoe news :) we had a Hoka rep come to our local running w/ 50 pairs of Hokas to demo- we decided on about a 6 mile route w/ a lot of technical rock. I have to admit, they soaked up the rocks like no other shoe I've ever run in. They felt a little less nimble than my Grits and N1/2's, but not a less. While they might have a taller stack height, it isn't as tall as it appears as your foot actually sits down in quite a ways. They are extremely comfy. When I wear out my PI's, I might spring for a pair to try out, probably the Stinson Evo Trail

pretty good week considering the 50k last Saturday- 0/6/6/6/0/0/19 for 37 miles, the 19 miles today were tough (about 4000' of elevation gain)- my legs felt it (more accurately feeling it :D)

Hey Big Sky, can I ask you what your time was on the 50k. I am trying to get a feel for what I might be in for. If you want you can PM me

Most of the 50ks around here have A LOT of elevation gain and that could be a problem for me. Im guessing around 6.5 hours for me.
