my first close to mid-pack finish at the Blue Mountain 30k :D lots of elevation gain and loss over the 19 miles, but lots of runnable sections as well-very nice course overall

temps were near perfect- 30 at the start, mid 50's at the finish- sun shining and no wind, tough to beat that in October!

I've been pulling my training back the last couple of weeks (and plan to continue for awhile)- cut one day of running out and shortening my runs a little- 24 miles this week (had been averaging closer to 40). Where I'm running I'm getting good hill work in consistently-averages out to close to 300'/mile

just for a little change; I've been hitting it pretty hard since this past Spring- figure it might do me some good pulling back slightly, but still maintaining a decent base.

+1 I don't know what it was but I also plateaued at the 27 min barrier in college. But coming from a sprinting background, I didn't think it was too shabby. I made up for being our 7th best xc guy by being our number one middle distance guy come track season

Cheap health care note. Sleep with leg(s) elevated above your heart. It will help with swelling and healing.

He folks, I'm back. Just paced my friend Shellee for 14 miles during her first 26.2, the Denver Rock & Roll, in 4:30.55. Her aim? To finish in 4:30.00

I think I can call this, "mission accomplished".

I literally had to run in front of her for the last 4 miles, her tought process was gone. I told her "draft of my ass, we are going for 5k". I had a BALL pacing her! Ate a donut, chugged two beers, ate some oranges and grapes, and flashed some co-eds that had a sign that read "pants free zone" along the route.

I'd doing again in heartbeat. I ran 13.5 in 2:07.17. Not even close to my best, but it was not my race to run!

^^ that's dope......I'd love to finish my marathon in that time. I did 12 miles yesterday to prep for a half 2 weekends from now. Furthest I've ever gone and felt good (had a few more miles in me for sure). Energy was great but my hip flexers were smoked. I'll box a few rounds today with some swimming after for some cross training and get some blood flowing but I guess I just need to get used to the pounding?

Are you following a training program (schedule)?
I know that those co-eds felt the same way! ;)

Ya basic schedule is easy, medium and a long day bringing me up to 20 miles 3 weeks before the marathon where I can taper. It's 3 days of running a week with 2 crosstraining (I box on the heavy bag and/or swim). It's actually less running than I was doing before I got injured but it's just enough to keep me recovered and fresh for every long run.

What's awesome is my boxing conditioning is through the roof too as my cadio has improved. I can box twice as long as before and still able to knock out 15 pullups. Have been sticking to bodweight for strength as lifting weights taxes me quite a bit.

^ I've started to reincorporate weights into my strength training (one day a week I still stick w/ all body-weight stuff); albeit it's still on a pretty high rep basis, but ever so slowly I'm progressing w/ more weight. I'm only strength training twice a week.

Any advice for treating a foot pain that occurs through heavy repetition?
The Plantar Calcaneonavicular Ligament to be exact, problem caused by flat feet.

I have arch support and ice. Needs to improve near 100% by the beginning of December...

There is this thing called a Strasberg sock. You wear it when you sleep. I wear them on both feet when I sleep. It looks completely ridiculous but hey if it works I really don't care.

you need to do arch strengthening exercises. also go for walks barefoot, find a track, soccer field, or football field. this will also help strengthen your feet in the right areas. December is pretty close though so good luck.

also try the Brooks pure cadence shoes.

I'll give this a try. It works that good?
I only ask because $40 for a sock seems pretty pricey off of Amazon

I'll try walking around barefoot (or in socks), probably around the house as much as I can to walk in circles since it's getting pretty cold outside this time of year

I mean I can't guarantee results obviously but it has worked amazing for me. Also I think someone mentioned this earlier but I've also put a lacrosse ball on the ground and rolled my arch on that. That seems to get a lot if the scar tissue and such worked out.

I used a kitchen rolling pin on my foot thing morning. Ive got a hard spot on the bottom of my left heel. Im gonna try and work it out. I also have scare tissue on my achillies tendon but idk if foam rolling will work it out?
