The NFL just sent out the official announcement on the penalties for the New Orleans Saints, stemming from their bounty program.

Here is a point-by-point list of the penalties:
The Saints are fined $500,000. In addition, because the violation involves a competitive rule, the Saints will forfeit their selections in the second round of the 2012 and 2013 NFL drafts.
Saints coach Sean Payton is suspended without pay for the 2012 NFL season, effective April 1.
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis is suspended without pay for the first eight regular-season games of the 2012 season.
Former Saints (and current St. Louis Rams) defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is suspended indefinitely from the NFL, effective immediately. Commissioner Goodell will review Williams’ status at the conclusion of the 2012 season and consider whether to reinstate him, and, if so, on what terms. Commissioner Goodell said he will give close attention to the extent to which Williams cooperates with the NFL in any further proceedings.
Saints assistant coach Joe Vitt is suspended without pay for the first six regular-season games of the 2012 season.
The Saints and the individuals disciplined today are expected to participate in efforts led by the league office to develop programs that will instruct players and coaches at all levels of the game on the need for respect for the game and those who participate in it, on principles of fair play, safety and sportsmanship, and to ensure that bounties will not be part of football at any level.
The league also said the involvement of players in the bounty program remain under investigation and Goodell will address possible discipline at a later date.

Certain players have performance based bonuses in there contracts If they dnt meet those stats they dnt get paid or are cut from the team all this bounty thing was is for players making good hits and great plays it's like the qb taking out his line for blocking him and not letting him get hit or a receiver giving the qb something for throwing him x amount of passes these penalties are way over the line

 

Drop the spygate crap. There was almost no competitive advantage with some assistant recording stuff that you can see with your own eyes. It was only made a big deal because the Patriots won 3 Super Bowls and a lot of other fans hated that. The media also hates Belichick because he doesn’t give them good clips, so they trashed him for it.

People comparing the two are quite dumb. Targeting players with a bounty system is completely messed up, and tactically it gives a huge advantage to purposely injure opposing players.

Being fined almost 1 million dollars and losing a 1st round draft pick was pretty steep, yet again people are acting like they were slapped on the wrist. Why? Because Belichick proved it gave no advantage by going 16-0 the next season?

 

Spy gate when the patriots and more important bill belicheck sending people to record teams practices or record team sideline signals to gain an advantage over that team when they played each other it went on for many years mainly when they won most of their superbowls and all they were punished with was a lost of a few draft picks no fines or suspensions

How does that not gov you am advantage you knew the signals so you knew what plays are coming what audibles are being called what blocking scheme is up that's like having a player from your team in their huddle

You do realize all that was recorded was stuff that can be seen with Belichick’s own eyes and the biggest reason it was frowned upon because they were using a technology to do it that was never approved by the league.

So you think that had a bigger impact than purposely injuring players? Do you watch football, or just hate the Patriots?

 

Every team has some kind of bounty scheme James Harrison hit many people and was fined for it the team payed those fines not Harrison every team has some kind I reward system even the game ball can be considered a bounty payment of some kind

 

I love football and do hate the patriots and it wasbt just injuring players it was making any type of big hit or big play on both sides of the ball Hines ward was another example he blocking you and you turn your head you end up getting put on your back qbs throw some of the worst and most dangerous blocks its football it's a contact sport people get hit an get Hurt that use to be the biggest draw to the nfl was big hits now you can barely touch players without being fined or suspended might as well play flag football

I'm quickly gravitating toward college sports for that very reason. There's no 'get in the playoffs and skate' mentality. Those guys go hard all game, every game. Also, they play each game like they're getting recruited by the NFL and they know if they do something stupid their coach will bench them. I'm quickly losing respect for professional athletes and what they represent.

Bret Favre was physically ruined by this.

There’s players that in the future will have their quality of life diminished by these practices.

Football is a tough and sometimes cruel sport, what has happened here crossed the line and has become criminal behaviour.

Its much easier for me just to type on a keyboard too I dont ever have to worry about stopping a thought or a sentence so I can post like 10 times in 2 minutes and everyone has to struggle to read what I wrote because I cant take 5 seconds to add punctuation to a sentence
