    The real safety car runs to a lap delta time which is displayed in the race car cockpits , basically all cars no matter where they are on the circuit cannot exceed the delta time displayed in their car

    This concept displays the safety car lap delta for the sector under yellow flags , taking the judgement on how much to slow down out of the driver's hands without causing a full course red flag

    You can't " safety car " only one sector of the track with a physical safety car , this will be way better than sitting through 5-6 full course safety car laps for every car recovery

    who would hack it? The teams? Yeah sure if you want to get a penalty and possibly DQ'd. With all the telemetry coming from the cars if you didnt follow the virtual safety car limits it would be pretty obvious by looking at telemetry if they werent following it.



    As for the race...nothing to exciting. The course looks like it has a ton of potential for some amazing racing. But the cars got to spread out and sort of just ran the circuit. Could have been a great race if Rosberg hadnt made the huge mistake going into the first turn....well race between lewis and him at least. Think i saw Lewis leading by 45 seconds at point. With something like 30 seconds lead over third for second place.

    The system already exists in the cars , the sector times are displayed about every 100m on the car's lap delta in the cockpit , all the data is provide via telemetry from FIA race control , who would hack it ?

    The race was processional because the tire compound choices were too conservative due to Pirelli not being able to test the asphalt prior to choosing the two race tire compounds

    I was thinking about this last night , are you guys watching the NBC feed not aware that the cars already display a lap time delta from FIA telemetry in the cars as they are ? David Coulthard , ex-F1 driver and BBC correspondent refers to it all the time and I just assumed that was common knowledge .

    On the cars with a seperate dash display like the Red Bulls , it is the LED readout to the right of the gear selector display

    The display can be set to any time , for example in qualifying it will usually update to each driver's fastest time , then on subsequent laps , the driver can see in real time where he is gaining or losing lap time

    ie the display shows a +.200 if he is 2/10's slower than the datum lap or -.100 if he is a 1/10 faster

    With the current safety car rules there is a track specific safety car lap time and the drivers must stay within a delta offset to that time , this is how the FIA controls their speed away from the safety car

    The virtual safety car idea basically uses the track specific lap time , but breaks it up into sector times , so if there are double waved yellows in a certain sector , the drivers would have to adhere to the delta time displayed for that sector , or face penalties for speeding

    Will buxton tweeted that alanso confirmed to him his ride next year will not have Mercedes power. That basically leaves Ferrari and mclaren.

    Edit: First things first; Hamilton was a point of pure brilliant light this weekend. Smooth, calm, just as fast as he needed to be, and used less fuel as he always does. A masterpiece.
    I said that to my wife this morning as we were watching the post-race interview, except I said that they'd buy Raikonnen out. Raikonnen is cheaper to buy out than Alonso and Alonso is still driving at a very high level and giving his all. (Unlike Vettel! His attitude this weekend was shameful.)

    The other possibility is 3 Ferraris. Caterham is a dead team walking. That opens two spots on the grid, and gives Ferrari - always an Ecclestone pet - a huge leg up in the constructor's competition.
