I know that guy (AB1OC) he has far deeper pockets than I do! His setup looks like a first class DX station. What he has in his tower setup would buy a nice new car. Here is my humble little station a few things have changed it was taken several month ago.

Yeah, I am sold on the MGS poles. I think the 28.5' poles will fit in the bed of the truck and still do what I want them to do. I wont get into antennas on here, Everyone loves a different one. I am going to try out the Arrow OSJ, the price is right and 98% of the people seem to love it. I can always upgrade later on.

Looks Good. It is still a better station than mine.

hid head lights, hid fog lights, always on fog lights, bed lights
    just saw this thread.

I got my Technician license in 1992, then got my Extra license in 1994, moved from 3 land to 6 land in 1995 (made sure I attended a hamvention in Dayton before I left), but never got around to renewing my license when it expired in 2004.

In case anyone here is from Pittsburgh PA area, let me know if N3BPB and N3INT are still active and tell them regards (73s) from AA3KN (formerly N3RKD). I still see them as active on FCC database though my callsign shows as expired.

When I moved to norcal, I found the local hams not quite as friendly from hams back in Pittsburgh (and the east coast in general), that's why I lost interest. :(

I used to do a lot of QRP CW and 2m of course.

    73s de AA3KN(expired as of 2004 :) )

p.s. any ham should attend at least once the Hamvention in Dayton.

Yes it is called a CB radio. There is no ham antenna that is designed for 11 meters.

I guess you are saying a ham radio can do 11 meters TX, yes it can with mods but you can't legally. That is the kind of stuff the FCC is looking for they like to jump on over high powered 11 meter radios the fines are stiff and the gear confiscated. They are easy to spot with a 25 watt AM carrier as opposed to 4 and are generally over modulated.

    Actually there are...
It usually just takes a little soldering with diodes.
There are books out there that detail these mods... artsci.com

As commented previously, these mods are a direct violation of FCC rules. Not something we want to suggest to someone starting out in the hobby.

I wouldn't exactly call us Elmers, but I think we have a responsibility to act like one.

CB Radios are used by a lot of casual off-roaders and do serve a need if you can live with the limited range they have, but a 2 Meter radio does EVERYTHING so much better. If your off-road group uses CB only You will need a CB to communicate with these guys (just don't act like an asshat if they do on the air...).

I'm not sure it's against the law to 'possess' one...only to 'use' one in an unlawful manner.
But if it can be deemed an emergency, anything goes...

Regular mobile CB's are cheap enough as is. If you want more range with legal power use a 102" whip.

Unless you're going into the UHF CB bands.

Also from everything I've heard about the FCC anymore they don't go after violations unless the work as already been done for them.
They only pursue violations in the Public Safety and Transportation venues.

You need not look any further than previous posts in this very thread to know that FCC does in fact bust dumb CB radio folks. Not only the goofs who interfere with public safety, but those who cause interference in general.
