I was into it big from 09-12.....racing just about twice a month.....it was fun at first, but then it got to the point where it wasn't fun anymore.....plus it got to be in the way of my other stuff I do as hobbies (shooting, etc...)

I have had just about every kind of r/c vehicle from 1/12 scale all the way to 1/8.....also had a couple rock crawlers along the way

I cut grass as a side business to help pay for it, but I found I was spending way more than I thought......Here are some rough estimates for those out there thinking about getting involved in R/C racing:

1/8 scale Electric Buggy (class I raced last).....I ran the Losi Eight E 2.0 buggy

    Kit- $550 est.
    ESC/Motor- 325
    Servo- 100
    Radio- 175
Batteries- 75 ea. (usually had at least 3 on hand at any time)
Tires- 60 per set of 4 (usually had at least 4 sets on hand at any time)
    Transponder- 80
    Battery charger- 100
Spare parts- usually $100 worth or so

Right at $1800 just to get started (all these prices are middle of the road).....and thats not including spare electronics as backups.....plus travel exspenses (gas, food, hotel, entry fees)

Im in NC and have raced in VA, SC, and GA also

All that may be middle of the road where your at but here thats downright outrageous. We like to do it for fun and dont get so carried away. The thing is know your limits and race what you can afford and upgrade when you can.

Thats a typical investment to race 1/8th scale buggies. Much different from the axial crawlers and short course trucks a lot of you are building. The top of the line 1/8th scale buggies are full blown racing machines. My Kyosho MP9e TKI3 costs 900 just for the roller...no servos, motor, esc, radio, ect. 1/8th scale is a pricey commitment. Its a ton of fun but the price can suck the fun out of it sometimes.

Meh I think I'll pass on that, I'd rather build a rc4wd or axial based 6x6. Would look much better with a different body for sure.

100% agree for a more scale oriented build.

I've just enjoyed their 4x4 version of this one so much that it's hard to not think about buying one  especially considering that with the extra servos I have laying around, all i'd have to do is build some aluminum links, and it'd be 6 wheel steer.....because I bet that thing barely turns as it sits

Yeah, for the price you cant beat it im sure. I like my 1/8 max stone, I don't see the need for a 6x6 unless I wanna get into pulling some shit around, haha. I kind of wanna build a wraith but r/c's are kinda down my want list at the moment, just like messing with the ones I got for now.

i'd use it for the steep stuff. the only difficulty I have with my 1/20 is the steeper climbs on large rocks. I sat it down low and weighted the front end, but it still does some pretty spectacular backflips. this uses the same suspension as mine, so I already know how to squeeze a bit more travel out of it on stock shocks. and it I wouldn't have to worry about the involuntary acrobatics. just gotta pile that thing full of batteries to turn 3 motors (and 3 servos if it's 6 wheel steer)

Tried my hand at making my own steering links, think they still need a little tweaking but not to bad. 1/4" solid aluminum rod drilled and tapped for 8/32" threads w/Revo ends. Gonna finish the tweaking and then give them a shot of black paint. [IMG]

I have to trim my fenders as well, im rubbing at full stuff. Im gonna do the fast back mod and ditch the top also. Getting the battery in and out of the back is a pain with the roof on. Was gonna move battery to front but with 2oz of weight in each front wheel and as low as it sets it's really stable and climbs really good so im just gonna leave it for now. Steering links are done, gonna do lower links tomorrow, and the next mod will be universal front axle shafts.

Try Craigslist, they are all over it here. Usually with upgrades as well. If you can find one that hasnt been rode hard and shit rigged up all over it.
