Not really a recipe but I like to use those Jack Daniels marinade in a bag things. Throw the meat in, seal, throw in a cooler and you're ready to grille.

Otherwise, I like camp potatos. Just chop up the potatos, throw on some seasoning (we have a season called Camp Mix that's great), wrap in foil with some butter and cook over the fire. When the potatos are done, open the foil, put some cheese on them and enjoy.

I just used this one last week on a kayak camping trip. It doesnt sound the best, but was delicious.

TACO SALAD - feeds 3-4 people.
1 Bag of Fritos chips
2 Cans Chili (I used Hormel with the pop top lids)
1 Head of iceburg lettuce
1 container of sour cream ( I used Cabot Salsa Grande)
1 jar of salsa

Heat the chili, cut up the lettuce, throw in the Fritos and mix all together in a bowl or bag. Add salsa and sour cream as needed.

This was really easy to make. Packed well in a kayak, and people loved it.

Supposedly two frozen burritos fit perfectly in the intake manifold of the 3.4. Still have yet to try it out.

backpacking, food can get very mundane, very quickly.

we had instant mash potatoes. Idahoans. tiny bag, light, easy to cook. just add hot water. we caught a bunch of trout. we took the potatoes and dusted the trout with it..then fried it in a lightly oil pan. DAMN!!! damn good. we tried whole fish, sans head and tail..but the filets were much better.

for the record, mountain house meals are much better if you pair it with some non backpack food. like MH beef stew poured over idahoan potatoes. way better.
