Anyone ever done this? If so, from Durango or Telluride? Tips, advice, comments?

A few buddies of mine are thinking of doing this summer of 2015. Just looking for anyone that had done it.

It's kinda spendy, I have a few friends who bought the necessary super light weight camping gear, frame packs and do unsupported multi day rides for free!!!

I've been riding for 15ish years and backpacking for just as long. If u have the backpacking stuff splurge on a frame pack for your bike and do a ride unsupported. If you are thinking of a San Juan trip ride the Continental divide Trail! It's a great trail!

    Thanks for the info.

I thought it sounded reasonable for unlimited food and shelter.

I've seen prices around $800/person for 7 day trip. I just don't see how someone could do a 7 day trip otherwise...just food alone would be too much to carry.

    Thanks!

Took the rig on the little excursion from Purgatory Ski Area (Durango, CO) to Moab last week via Bolam Pass, Black Mesa, Miramonte Reservoir, Paradox Valley, the La Sals and Kokopelli trail. Total of 215 miles, 7 days, new friends, cold, hot, mud, sun. All fun.

This was actually our second attempt. We tried in September of 2013 to do the trip starting in Silverton over Molas and Rolling Pass but only made it to the Bolam Pass hut after 13 hours of slogging. Two of the 4 bikes in the group had failed and we got into the hut very late with continuing rain. So we aborted to Durango (a 70-ish miles ride down from the hut). We found out later that had we continued it would have been several days of of mud. At least one group had to double back to the Wedding Bell hut and get a shuttle to the Paradox hut due to terrible conditions on the day we were trying to get to the first hut.
