Just a FYI, if anyone is going to be in Moab the last weekend of August, I'll be there.

If anyone has any suggestions on places to ride or eat or see, let me know.

I went 2 years ago, had a great time.

Best ride by far was the Porcupine Rim trail. You can get shuttled up there by one of the bike shops in town, well worth it. Something like 16 miles of downhill. The trail is right next to an enormous drop off (cliff) at one point - about 1,000 ft. Keeps you focussed! The bext part is about a mile of singletrack at the end down the side of a mountain, with the Colorado river as the backdrop. I think this pic was taken there:

    http://www.yeticycles.com/#/ourrides/

Slickrock was fun, but Porcupine Trail was the best.

As for eating we ate a few breakfasts at a place called The Old Jailhouse Cafe (or words to that effect) which was great. Had good supper at a big pizza place on a corner with a big open fire going, can't be more specific but you won't miss it.

    Have fun.

yea those are nice bikes... i just cant justify getting a full suspension for what i'm gonna use it for. my last bike ( many years ago ) was a Trek Y3. i loved that thing.. raced it quite a few times. then life caught up with me and i quit riding and sold it... now i want to get back into riding again.

Got back from Moab in one piece, but my bike didn't. Slickrock was too technical for my tastes. Porcupine rim was awesome, but bring more water than you think you'll need. I had 120 oz and ran out.

We also did Bartlett wash, which was a PITA 8 mile climb, but the 8 miles downhill back was awesome.

Glad you liked Porcupine Rim, we thought it was great. Did you shuttle to the top?

Hell yeah. Best $20 I spent all week!

BTW, anyone that goes out there. Zax is the pizza place. Pizza is pretty good, burgers were really good and the breakfast was awesome.

Pasta Jay's sucked ass. Food wasn't very good and the service was crappy.

Eddie McStiff's sucked. Food wasn't good, drinks were weak, and the prices were high.

The Brewery was great. Food was awesome, prices were good and the service was alright.

Poison Spider bike shop was awesome. Prices were actually lower on most everything than at bike shops here in Dallas. Service staff (trued up a wheel and fixed a couple spokes) was quick and priced right. Dudes in the shop were pretty cool too. And the shuttle up to Hazard county was the best money I spent.

I'm actually looking to get a bike myself. Just something entry level to ride some of the mild trails around here. Don't want to spend more than 500 bucks since it would seem silly to me for how it's going to be used. As of right now I'm trying to decide between a Specialized Hardrock or a Trek 3700. Any reason I should pick one over the other? Also, would it be a good idea to spend the extra money for one with disc brakes?

Find good deal on a used Mtn Bike.

It may take a little looking - but a lot of people buy them, ride 'em once or twice and park them in the garage. Two years later, they decide they want to park the car in the garage, and put it on Craig's list. I've seen bikes that were 1200 or 1500 new sell for around 500 bucks - and they are practically brand new.

So instead of a Hardrock, you can get a Stumpjumper - or ?

Alright, I'll check out some used ones and see if I can find anything good. As far as full suspension, don't need that so that's not much of a concern.
