There have been a very few since the first reports. Not many since. It's nice to see them going back to the wild.

What's surprising to me is how long it's taken to figure out what the stuff is. It's good to know it's not anything from the refineries.

The auklets washing ashore up here seem to be starving to death and they are theorizing that the warmer water in the ocean where they are feeding is to blame

Last night happened to catch a show on PBS that talked a lot about slime in the ocean. I may not agree with everything that was sensationalized, however I found Dr. Jeremy's "Rise of Slime" interesting, and overall his philosophy and scientific research solid from what I have read. Here is a quick link from 2008, he is at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.

Interesting read if you Google him...

Hey Weeeeesaaaa...how does this affect you? The way I read it, it sounds like if you are a group of two or more, you owe MT F&W a permit fee-regardless of whether you're shooting commercial or not.

Its really no different than the rules already in place with the NPS, its just worded very confusingly.
Basically a professional or amateur still photographer doesn't qualify for the commercial rules as long as its just the photographer, a camera, and a tripod obeying all existing rules and regulations. If you have a crew, sound recording, props, models or need access to areas or will be involved in activites that are normally not allowed then you need to have a permit and possibly have an employee of the BLM, FS, etc babysit.

The confusing part is the interpretation vs words on a page.

Yeah, thats why I like the NPS rules, theyre spelled out a little less confusingly.

Basically just comes down to common sense. Follow the rules, leave no trace, and you'll be fine.

Only 1 Baldie all day though and never did get really close. The swans helped make up for it though.
