Any ice hockey players on TW? Searched and found no prior threads. Roll call! And better yet, show off your gear! (I'll post a pic mine when I get off work in the morning)

It's been a while, but I have played competitively from the time I was 4 through high school. I did not go to college, so that's when it all ended. I played in men's leagues since then - 29 years old now - but not much in the last year or two.

By that point, I was just burnt out. Played four years of varsity through high school, basically was skating every day plus in the gym at least once, if not twice a day. I regret not going further now, but I had enough of playing at the time. I'm sure everyone can relate in some way, but had I known then what I know now, I would have gone to college and continued to play rather than trade school - from a hockey standpoint ONLY. However, trade school has paid off for me, so I don't really regret going that route for a career.

I hated working in construction, but love working for the utility company. I am still young and working my way up the ladder. My manager and supervisor are training me to be a supervisor, then I won't be touching the tools anymore and making significantly more money...can't complain about that, as I do fairly well already.

cool, was going to start a thread for ice hockey too....This is a shot from our championship game last weekend, team only played for 2 periods but it takes 3 to win a game, hence we lost!...I'm next to the goalie..

Right? However, I am only 5'4" 140lbs and most the guys I play with are 5'8, 5'10 even 6' tall! Doesn't take much for a errant elbow swing to connect with my head. Sucks…and it takes a lot more to push them out of the crease when they way 200lbs plus! But I welcome the challenge :D

Not so sure about "ice hockey"....:D

But I play drop-in "hockey" here in Central Alberta. I played hockey a fair bit as a kid and teen - but it dropped off during secondary schooling. I ended up badly out of shape most of my adult life, but about 5 years ago I got my butt in gear and got into amazing shape. With that, I picked up hockey again.

I generally play 1 to 3 times a week now (in between other training). Most of the people that show up are former junior players - or guys that aged out of organized play of some sort. My fitness levels allow me to keep up with many of them - and in some cases exceed them. But many have natural talents that I will never come close too. It's probably my greatest passion - just being out on the ice. Nothing exists beyond the boards, and it's a ton of fun. The games get pretty competitive, but mostly everyone is there for pure enjoyment.

No photos, as not many people show up to watch drop-in.

lol, most games there's no fans at all!...my pic's are from a championship game and the league took the pic's......I've been playing for the last 25 years and almost every season. I'm 43, soon to be 44, and I keep up with 95% of the guys in my mens league and the majority of them are probably less than 30! I will say I do have a few more aches and pains than when I was in my late 20's but overall I feel good. It keeps me young!!

I'm not that big either, 5'-10" 165lbs, but being smaller does have it's own advantages though! and the taller they are the harder they fall......
