Archery

I've been flinging arrows for more than 48 years. I make most of my own equipment, bows even. Tried compound bows for a few years but eventually came back to the simple stick and string (simple mind, simple bow)

I've noticed a few archers/bow hunters here, lets hear from you.

awesome thread man!!!

i started shooting bows/hunting with it too, 2 seasons ago. i bought my pse nova at a local pawn shop, and basically taught myself how to shoot and set up my bow. of course, i have had some advice from different people which has helped me greatly. i love the feel of shooting, and its so relaxing too. here is my first bow deer, a 120 lb. doe, and i was so excited when i got her, i almost jumped outta my climbing stand while it was still in the tree.

you got any pics of it?? im definitely going to try with a bow. i think it will be hard work, but if i can call one in pretty close.....i think i may have a decent chance at success. i've seen a few on the property where i hunt deer, and my sister has seen them come to the pond for water(and ducks), so i have them relatively close anyhow.

Nice shot placement

Pumphouse destroyed with that shot eh Tacomaman, yound deer, good eatin---- I too luv Bowhunting..been at it for 15yrs maybe, am now goona try traditional, maybe (simple too I guess) just like the feeling of my longbow My compound is a Mathews, also a good bow but when the temps are cold, I mean really cold, my compound is tough to pull "59lbs" (ya gettin old) but hey, this is canada, we got blasted this last winter Xbows are legal here, not sure if I like em yet
Bowhunting is awesome though, I've taken loads deer and bear with my bow and its still getting better. Guess when one loses the passion, he/she can find something else to try, not yet for me
Cheers from the North

When all else fails, turn up the country tunes and go for a drive in your Taco

Nice deer! I have been bowhunting for about 30 yrs and would not have it any other way. I have only killed 4 deer with a rifle and 3 with muzzleloader and the other 50 or so with a bow. I shoot a Hoyt Ultra Mag and it is awesome. I have been a hoyt fan for many years.

Its hard trying to remember you are in a stand and can't go running after the shot! LOL

hoyt makes a great bow.....but i like my pawnshop pse pretty good. i dont think im doing too bad though.....kinda learning as i go all about bows and shooting in general.

i have been hunting alotta years, but only killed 4 deer so far.....good run of bad luck and sleeping in the woods. 3 with my rifle....one with the bow. im definitely gonna bow hunt alot more this year. i love everything about it.

and yeah.....being in the stand and being super excited dont go too well together.

'06, that is a nice deer and congrats on your first bow kill. You otta really think about all of them hogs in SC, and how much the farmers would appreciate you thinning the herd for them. I couldn't find a pic of the 'yote, it's actually over the fireplace at my cabin. I'll get a pic next time I'm up there. Here's a few pictures of a couple of the hunts I've done.

A pic of a hog I shot on a Fla. trip. The bow was an osage selfbow, backed with grass carp skins I made for the hunt. That ol' hog knocked me over and jumped on me before he died.

Nice trophy, sorry I haven't gotten a chance to post earlier. Anyway, I couldn't find any pics of my bow but, I'll take some and post 'em up soon. BTW my 1st bow was a PSE (It was a Fire Flite Elite, neon green w/ white limbs). I started out shooting target and at the time I was the first person to get the neon Elite in NJ. It was sometime in the late 80's not sure exact year. That was a sweet bow though. Although, I should've moved to northern Cali, better hunting up there I'm sure. Haven't found much in soCal, just coyote and border-jumpers. Whoops... that wasn't very PC of me, just a joke guys. Hey I'm Irish, so, chances are I'm drunk right now as I type this. Anyway I'll get on those pics ... Later.

I started shooting traditional a few seasons back... got a custom recurve from a great friend of the family and haven't put it down since. I've yet to connect with one of our great Kansas whitetails, but I'm dedicated to the cause.

Nagelg is right... once ya go traditional ya don't go back. I just sold my old PSE Thunderbolt. My traditional setup is the 57lb recurve, Easton 2020's and Magnus Stinger BuzzCut 125's. Mean medicine.
