I just sold a 2010 Trek Top Fuel 9.8 and bought a 2011 Trek Gary Fisher HIFI Pro 29er. The top fuel was great, light and would climb well. But I can do even more on the HIFI. I carve corners better at speed. Technical trail is much easier. The only real difference is the weight penalty on a long climb. Other than that, go 29.

Just picked up a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport DC LB a few weeks ago to shuttle these guys around.

2010 V-10.3 and 2010 Nomad2. Both custom builds. Some changes since these pics were taken.

Question: Why do my disc brakes squeak when I turn on my MB while riding it? I have cleaned the calipers (friction pads?) (if thats what they are called on bikes) and have taken some sand paper (lightly scuffed) to the discs to clean any grit or anything.

I have cleaned the brakes twice now, and the squeaking while turning noice came back withing a week both times.

Edit: I'm sure it's just dirt getting into the pads, but I was wondering if others have this recurring problem, and what you guys did to fix it.

Calipers will always get dirty, there's no way to avoid it and it shouldn't cause extended squeaking/squealing.

Squealing could be a sign of poor alignment of the caliper to the rotor.

Also, sometimes brakes just squeal regardless. Often when they're cold and wet. You can find it coming and going on the same ride depending on how much you've been using them.

Ah ok, reason I asked is that almost every time I go ride some trails I hardly ever hear other bikes squeaking as much as mine.

By the way I just did a 30 mile round trip on my MB and the sqeaking wasn't too bad till about the last part of the trip. :) Even then it's usually only the front brake that squeals the worse.

Best way to get rid of squeaking is to wear headphones.:D Sersiously, that what I do.

Window tint, debadged, fog-lite anytime mod, aftermarket taillights, low profile toolbox modded with three mountain bike mounts, JVC dvd headunit, Kicker hideaway, Fox 2.5" IFP with DSM UCA's, Allpro standard (soon to be expedition) leaf pack, 255/85r16 BFG KM2's, 1.25" spidertrax wheel spacers, powdercoated gloss black TRD offroad rims with color matched center caps.
Ink junky: I also have had similar issues with my front brake. I have to take my wheel off to load it up in the truck, so it's constantly out of alignment. What I have found that works when everything else looks good is taking a flat head screw driver and opening up the pads a little bit. It seems to work the best. Just my 2¢ hope it helps

I need one too. Actually I have a store brand schwinn mb and that sucker is crap. The wheels bent with just light trails. Any recommendations for beginners? Not too expensive please.
