I know about that one more bike frame that you have to build (I mean sell to me built at a huge discount.....:)). I might need a piece by piece component build one of these days!!!

Before I food coma'd today...I installed my Push Industries Nomad link on my DHX RC4 and then took some proper pictures. The Push link is makes the bike SOOOO much more plush when you have a rear coil spring on the gen 2 Nomad.

    Enjoy!

I will win in a fight and you have not pm'ed me on what the whole bike build would cost.

A sourced bike build starting with a bare frame will usually be cheaper than buying a new/newly used bike outright. My last 4 bike builds have started from a bare frame. All of them fall $1500 to almost $2000 under the retail price of their "top build bike" the manufacturer offers---and built all to MY specs which is win/win. The key is finding the deals on parts, and there are TONS out there.

Searching Craigs/Pinkbike/Ebay can reduce your overall build costs by 25-30% on average. I can refer you to my main parts guy on Pinkbike if you need somewhere to start looking around for parts.

Those are all good sites, I have been looking. I just dont know what the really good components are. I have been out of mt biking so long I dont know what components are best and what is better for certain bikes compared to others. My LBS guys are great at helping me out I just want to get as knowledgeable as I can be and used to be. I have been doing lots of research.

The 4 main things to not skimp on are forks, rear shocks, brakes, and drivetrain.
Forks & rear shocks continue grow as far as brand options but you can never go wrong with anything Fox or Rock Shox.

For brakes, there are lots of GOOD options out there, but I always gravitate towards Shimano or SRAM(Avid)---both make really good brake sets tailored for whatever your budget can afford.

For drivetrain, again, I always gravitate towards Shimano or SRAM....Shimano being my favorite. For a BUDGET DH build, Shimano has a GREAT inexpensive group set called Zee. It's basically "Saint on a budget." Because I'm OCD, I always like to buy my drivetrain components in coordinating groupsets....ie: XTR shifter(s), XTR derailleurs, XTR crankset. They are part of a group because they are designed & optimized to work as a group.

There are TONS of other really great brands I have not mentioned, but if you're getting back into MTB after a long hiatus, the brands I mentioned are pretty much industry standard.

I would try to get to know a MECHANIC @ your LBS, and not someone who just is in charge of retail. Nothing beats a mechanic's resources and experiences/opinions on components.

Build a bike to maintain, not a bike to repair. ;)

I absolutely love these rims. Nice choice. Not my choice for color, but they still rock.

That was pretty cool. Did realize there was abandoned rail cars out there. The double deck cars look almost brand new.

Yes I wont skimp on any of those items. And I am familiar with those industry standards. My LBS guys are awesome, they are both mechanics first, they do all the maintenance. I was actually thinking as I buy the parts that I have them teach me how to install them. I know they are called components as well,:D. That way I learn as I go
