Anybody following the 'set sag on incline' thread on PB? Well, it's in the Show us your Santa Cruz thread and pretty entertaining. Especially since it's Spicy-Mike who's making the claim.

I've always believed sag gets set on level ground and any adjustment as needed for the conditions was the way to go. Sure, you might dial in a bit more (or less) sag per your preference but always set on level.

I want to hear what you guys think ;)

Yeah I've never heard of doing it that way. I feel like that would be really hard to get an accurate reading by yourself because you would be bouncing around like crazy on a hill.

ive put a little extra air in my fork when I ride at the park so my fork rides a little higher and doesn't compress as much on jumps but i would never set it like that for everyday riding

im gona be honest i have never set anything the "proper way". my suspension rules have always been to go off feel (and not parking lot test) just doing laps on a trail and tuning.

but my big thing is always have the proper spring rate so that you don't need as much compression to make the shocks job easier. and never use preload my rear springs on my coil shocks are practically loose because when you sit on them they tighten up and if you crank em down too much then you loose small bump sensitivity. same goes with the fork. as for air shocks i hate them all...except the pike that things a dream

as far the sag thing it makes sense to me in someways. but your bikes in a neutral position when its level and thats where all the geo is measured from and as soon as you go downhill or uphill the geo of everything changes, so i think the manufacturers have it so that % is at a level measurement.

I get what he's saying conceptually but it doesn't make much sense given the terrain isn't consistent. Sag, to me at least, is getting to a neutral place from which you can start tuning.

Agree, setting sag is a starting point and you adjust from there. If you want to do it on an incline, that is fine, but you will still need to adjust. It's not just the terrain, it's also the rider and the bike characteristics. Physical body differences, body position preferences and how they mesh with the bike and how you like to ride are going to make a difference. The only "right" setting is what feels best to you. My 2 cents, anyway.

Enjoying my Fisher Tass so far. Got a local shop that is going to true my wheels and add disc brakes for materials and a case or 2 of beer. He owes my buddy a favor and he's going to let me cash in on part of it.

Nice ride! I'll have to put up a pic of my POS DH rig. It's built from parts off 4 different bikes haha. The frame is a Karpiel Discovolante.
