    How To: Lower Your 2nd Generation (2005+) Toyota Tacoma 5-Lug

    Here I’m going to list parts available to drop your truck. Some parts have advantages and disadvantages over others, and some of these may be matters of opinion; so therefore I have chosen not to include mine in the original post. Please, if you are looking to drop your truck, use this as a guide but research a little on your own about other member’s reviews as well as my own about these products. I will be happy to answer your questions in the subsequent posts about my opinion if you so wish to. And remember, I am in no way responsible for what you do to your truck. Kden.

    Front:

    Things to Remember:

    1. When upping the spring rate, it would be wise to upgrade the front struts. The OEM Tokicos tend to not handle a stiff spring very well, and will wear out very fast. Currently, to my knowledge, the only suitable replacement are OEM Bilstien shocks designed for the XRunner. All other aftermarket front strut replacements are for a lifted or stock application.
    2. 6 Lug trucks (4x4 & PreRunners) have a completely different front suspension setup. Nothing to my knowledge is interchangeable.

    OEM XRunner Springs (Nominal Drop)

    Will fit and stiffen up the front end and improve handling.

    XII Drop Springs (1.25”-1.75”) http://www.xiiperformance.com/?page_id=1007

    These drop springs were designed for the XRunner in mind, but can be used with all 5 lug trucks. Very high spring rate; ride will be firmer. The drop also depends on the weight of your truck. (aka XRunners w/ the heavy V6 will get closer to 1.75” than a regular cab, with lighter I4 and less weight in general)

    SOS/Tundra Racing Spring Perch (1.5”) http://tundraracing.com/xrunnerdropkit.htm

    Lowers the perch on the strut, dropping the truck. Primarily used by XRunners, but should work on all 5 lug trucks. Same concept as a coilover sleeve, but non adjustable.

    C2C (or custom brand) Spindle Spacer

    Metal spacer and extended bolt between the balljoint and spindle.

    DJM Upper and Lower Control Arms (3”) http://djmsuspension.com/applications/toyota/2005-2011-toyota-tacoma/

    Replaces the upper and lower control arms with powdercoated aftermarket, greasable units with polyurethane bushings. Utilizes stock ball joints, which need to be pressed in, and are not included with the kit.

    1. Does anyone have pictures of how the TundraRacing "Perch" is mounted?? :confused: I know it slides over the strut but I want to see where it lands and how the stock x-runner spring sits if you know what I mean...

    2. Who sells the
    C2C (or custom brand) Spindle Spacer ?? Anyone have pix??

    1. You need to have the XR shocks to do this. With the base model shocks you can't do this because the perch is fixed. with the XR shock, you can take off the perch and swap.

    2. I don't think it's in production anymore, but peep my lowering thread, I have the bolt size posted in there, all you would need is for someone to machine you the spacers (keep in mind that once you hit 1.75" you will be entering into the negative camber area).

    You can run DJM by itself it was designed to just give a true 3" drop without changing ride quality or anything however upgrading to x runner billys and x runner stock could would help the truck handle better
    Just don't run the stiffer coil with stock struts it will kill it like mines are pretty much shot
