Front Suspension Weak

I have an 07 longbed with 18,000 miles and for sometime now have been experiencing it bottoming out, I believe the left front end. I've taken it back to the dealer twice. First time they tightened up the front end. Second time they replace the struts. a couple of weeks later it back to bottoming out again. I wa thinking od just putting in coilovers but figured I'd ask you all for suggestions. Thanks for your help

 

Whatta you mean by 'bottoming out'?

Are the coil wraps touching eachother? Or is it the coilover shocks/struts?

Take it back to the dealer again - and make sure you document every visit. If you're not getting any success with that dealer, take it to another dealer and document your visits. I've never heard of the front suspension continually bottoming out or failing.... it's just unusual.

Have you inspected the truck yourself at all? Inspect the areas around the front suspension, frame, a-arms, anything....look for something unusual or even damage,rust,cracks,etc.

 

Just a thought, if its been in three times for the same thing (without a successful fix), you could lemon law it and get a new Taco.

 

That would've been my next suggestion - but the lemon law is a bit complicated and can vary by state. If you don't have proper documentation of the problem and the occurances plus the effort of which it was dealt with.... you might not have a leg to stand on. Legalities...
Definately need to research the lemon law in the state at which he lives in.

 

Try to compare it to something else on the lot that does not bottom out.

But What I really recommend is calling the 1-800 toyota customer care # which gets a "BIG" fire going under the dealer's arse to make you happy...try that one

 

Hey all thanks. II believe they are the blisten coilovers, stock It sounds like a thump like maybe the shocks are compressing all the way. I haven't looked myself, actually its back at the dealer right now, 3rd time. Their own invoice lists the 2 prior visits so I think I' coverred with the documentation. I did call Toyota an customer care and they gave me a case #. Maybe thats why they told me 2 hours and its been 4 and still no word. I do like the idea of taking it to another dealer. Kind of sucks as I been going to the same place for 20yrs now

 

Well so good news. It took two master mechanics but they both heard the thump. The bad news is they don't knopw what it is and have called Toyota Corp. for an answer. Hopefully I'll hear no later than Tuesday. At least the Truck was washed.

 

what are the ods that it could happen to be a bad or loose cab mount??? kinda what its sounding like to me!

 

It could be loads of things...pending when it occurs. Balljoints, a-arm joints/bushings, bla bla bla

For Gawd sake.... The Toyota master mechanics can't figure it out?

Blue Thunder - atleast you're moving in some sort of positive direction with it. The dealership atleast acknowledges the problem - which, is half the battle. Keep us updated!! I'm curious to know what it is or what they do about it.

They had a field tech. comeout and take a look. They are claiming that when going over speed bumps (which I do lightly) intermittently the front mud flaps come down hard on the speed bump. They claim one has a hairline crack. They claim there is no solution but for the first 3 years or 36,000 mile they will replace them for free. I called Toyota Corp. and they are assigning a Case Worker, a new case # and I will hear by end of business day tomorrow. Has anyone heard of this or are they BSing me?

They are blaming this problem on the mudflaps?!

 

i can see the mudflaps hitting the speed bump........they are long as hell, but they aint gonna squeak. they are gonna break if they are hit hard enough...........ask me how i know. honestly........they are bs'ing ya man!!!

 

Little more info I went and picked up my truck today and to say the least I was pissed as he??. The FTS (Field Tech. Specialist?) Is who this came from. The service manager believes it is a design flaw Long service writer never heard of sucha thing. I called Toyota Corp. again and they opened up a new case# and said a case mananger will be calling by end of day tomorrow. I'm guessing by the time this is over I will have had sway-a-way coilovers installed. I'll keep updating this.

Well There is a whole new meaning to oh what a feeling. Turns out Toyota is standing by the FTS saying this is a normal condition. What a joke Toyota has become. I called Longo and they had never heard of such a thing. Also to further make things interesting it turns out that Northridge Toyota (in CA) installs sway-a-way coilovers. Wonder why?

 

Got tired of dealing with it after 3 months of back and forth. Well the funny part of this is that today i took it to a different dealershipto have Sway-a-way coilovers installed. Interesting that a Toyota dealership installs them huh? They over booked but I should be getting it back by noon tomorow.
