    I am going to be getting custom Alcan Springs with 4" of lift pretty soon. My question is what shocks do i need that allow full up and down travel. And that give a good ride, maybe better than the stock TRD shocks if thats possible. I do plan on doing off roading and trail riding and some dessert stuff, nothing to crazy but like to have too much fun sometimes:D. I am probably going to want some remote resivior shocks. I am just confused by all the different types and brands valving etc... I see a lot of people with the 5100 and 5125 but i am thinking i want something a bit better, but i am open to all brands...Icon,Fox,King,Billys...Thanks for the help.

    if you go billys 5125's is what you will need the 5100 are only good to about 2" of lift. to figure out which 5125's you need either measure yourself or ask people you run the same setups

    ya they seem to be really good, just need help with the size in terms of up and down travel, thats what i am confused about, with the 4" lift in the rear.

    once you get the leafs you need to go out and measure your travel. install the leafs then make the rear flex and articulate without the shocks and then do your measuring there. if you leave the shocks in there with the lift you wont get full measured reading because of the lack of flex...at least thats how i would invision doing it, if thats wrong someone will chime in

    1) $1000 on Camburg Spindles
    2) Icon Coilovers
    3) $1000 on KM2's
    4) $700 on rims
    5) $600 on Alcan Springs

    so budget, shbudget, i want the best that will work for me

    yep everything but the tires and rims, going to take it to a shop, just worried about the spindles kinda, never done this before, havnt really read into installing them, i just dont know if i have to get new seals for bearings and regrease, but i guess i will find out with some research.

    Yep, what he said. Flex it out completely with no shocks on. Measure the distance between the shock mount points at full droop and full tuck.

    You might want to add an extra inch or two to each of your measurements because those springs will probably get a bit more flexy when they break in.

    Once you have this measurement you can get the perfect shock from any of the top companies. Don't waste any time looking for "shocks for Tacoma with 4" lift". Just buy the exact length you need in the brand you like.

    If it is hard to find a shock that hits that "sweet spot" within your measurements, then you should try and address the droop measuremnet more, and correct the tuck issue by getting bigger/longer bumpstops to limit the tuck travel.

    how do you guys suggest i flex it out? With a jack i guess.
