starting install of Old Man EMU dakar Leaf packs

What do you mean by collars? New center pins? I haven't put the dakars in yet but they will be in this evening.

 

There are 2 types of axle shims , the style that the centre pin goes through , like this :

and the style that slides in , like this :

The first style requires you to remove the leaf pack in order to add shims , the second style does not , however , if you use the slide in style , the length that the centre pin head is exposed below the leaf pack is not sufficient after you add the thickness of the axle shim to securely engage into the axle

Centre pin collars go on under the centre pin head by removing the pin and adding the collar prior to installing the leaf pack , that way you can add shims later if you need them and having the collars without shims makes no difference

Well it looks like I have the first option. The one with the pins in them. If I have to use shims I will just take the center pins out of the dakars (while clamped) and replace with the new one and shims attached correct? I can do this by just releasing the u bolts and lowering the axle am I right?

How do you figure out the exact degree axle shims you need?

Good job doing it on your own. I've done all my suspension work alone with basic hand tools including a breaker bar. Good times.
