Putting a Camper on a 2004 Doublecab

Hello everybody this is my first post,
I have a 2004 Doublecab Tacoma, and I just recently bought a Northstar Pop up cabover camper that weighs about 1200 pounds.

When I put on the camper, it almost bottoms out the stock suspension, the leaf springs bend the opposite way.

I have looked at several options such as leaf springs kits, air shocks, add a leafs, and blocks or shackles. I plan to do some mild off roading with the camper, Dirt Roads nothing major.

I don't plan to use the camper all the time, maybe ONCE A MONTH, and I dont want to have a stiff ride when the campers not on it. Got a baby in carseat.

Im thinking Air shocks with add a leafs would be cheapest and easiest.

For street driving, Air Bags would work good. But if you are going off-road you don't want to risk tearing a bag. So you may want to look at a set of Timbrens. Also new shocks with stiffer valving will help control the additional weight.

1200 pounds is getting pretty heavy on a Tacoma. All Terrain Campers makes a similar pop up camper that weighs a few hundred pounds less and is stronger for off road use. I bought one and love it! I got mine from this nice guy, Jay: http://www.jayaronowcampersales.com/

 

I eded up putting the Firestone Ride Rites, bilstein hd shocks, and a kurt reciever hitch, love it.
