Choosing Between

I am trying to decide between the following lift kits, originally I was set on the first one but think the second might be a better choice:

1) Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit for 2005 & Up Tacoma with Bilstein 5100 rear shocks, diff drop kit and OME CS047R Dakar leaf springs

2) Icon 05-Up Tacoma Suspension System - Stage 4

I want to Run 285/75/17 tires and wanting a full 3" of lift after i get all the goodies added onto the truck. (front and rear bumpers, winch, lights and full set of skids and sliders)

 

Another option would be to mix and match a comination of the best components from both kits, such as Icon in the front with Icon rear shocks but to use the Dakar rear leafs in stead of the icon add a leaf.....

 

I'd go with the the Ultimate kit with the Dakars...

 

Icon is a big jump in price from the ultimate lift...what's your budget.

I said icon FYI, I think it will last you longer.

 

these 2 kits are two very different applications.

the toytec is a non performance based "lift kit".. it's just a threaded body 5100 shock w/ an eibach spring and collar

the Icon kit is a race style, performance suspension

like said: two very different price tags as well

whats your goal w/ the lift kit? looks? off road performance?

 

looking for offroad performance, and still have some street mannors, when to the shop today for a quote and they dont know anything about icon but recommended WALKER EVANS 2.5 FRONT COIL-OVERS for the front and Walker Evans 2.5 Rear Shocks with All-Pro 3" Lift Rear Leaf Springs anf then all the trimings to have it fit together and not strain the truck, also recomented All-Pro 4130 Chromoly Upper A-Arms, I know its much more money for this than the toytec but i want to do it right the first time and be able to use my truck off road and not worry about it. But im not going to get crazy off road it is a daily driver too.

 

Actually the guy I'm dealing with hates ap. He told me that he called icon and toytec and both said they might have issues with the weight. I do take everything with a grain of salt. I do say it's harder than just picking a kit and having it installed. Might call the makers myself and see. Anyone have shops they trust even outside Calgary that I could call to make sure I would be getting the right stuff.

 

What don't you like about your setup now? I have speced a icon and ome parts as well. I find the hard part is I don't know enough about these companies and 4x4ing that I feel I can make the best decision for what I want. Just to recap where I started.

First kit was the toytec 3" ultimate kit
Second a compination icon stage 4 shocks and coil overs with ome Dakar rear springs
Third kit is the walker and ap combination kit

I come from an IT background were you can determine "the best" parts reitaivly easily by comparing factual specs. I'm finding it hard to apply the same system to the mods I want to do to my truck.

 

Will that setup with the tc uca give me an actual 3" of lift? Will it hold unto the weight of an ARB front bumper with a winch and added lights? Your help has been great by the way.

 

I wannest planning on getting the kit it seems to get what I want i need to piece the best componets together. Just used kit referenced to help illustrate which parts I am thinking of.

 

should I suspect any issues with weight? will the Dakars give a enough lift to balance with the front?

 

Sounds like your getting some good help here, but I'm just wondering why the ARB bumper? We now have many bumpers for our trucks from a variety of venders here on the site that are strong and lighter. This may solve your concerns about weight.

Just to throw my .02 in I really like my foxes and I'll be getting OME Dakars in the back at some point too.

 

ARB is much lighter than the original Road Armours i was going to go with. By not doing a rear bumper and going with the ARB i should be okay plus i like the lines of it compared to the other bumpers i have looked at, not into the tube styles, I have emails out to Walker and Icon to see if they can also provide some insight. Anyone have experience with warrenty work on theses products, I live in Canada if that makes a difference.

 

I have Icon Ext Travel coils in the front with TC UCA's. It has served me well, but if I were to do my whole lift over again I would just save and get the King's in front.

 

I guess my questions is why ARB vs. AP, shockworks or CBI plate bumpers?

When I was looking into a bumper the ARB weighed around 200lbs vs AP at 120lbs. Plus I just liked the look of the AP.
