Installed 5100's and air bags this weekend

I installed 5100's in the front at 2.5 and air bags in the rear. If anyone is doing the same or some of it and wants some help, its very fresh in my mind and I can give some good tips.

1st side took 2hrs.

2nd side took 1 hour.

3rd side took about 30 min. Yea, I had to go back to the first side because I realized that I put something together wrong. But after all that i am very familiar with what has to be done to install the shocks and what is helpful.

 

What year is your truck ?

 

Oh yea, forgot to mention, its a 4wd 2 gen. Id say without either really good instructions or help its a intermediate job to tackle. With good instructions and a few tools anyone can do it.

I installed the AirLift air bags or sometimes called air springs. I bought them and the 5100's from Suspensionconnection .com . They shipped super quick and the price was reasonable. The air bags installed super easy, no drilling or anything. Just bolt them up and your ready to go. I sill want to install an onboard compressor, but Ill do that later on.

 

I had used AAL's in the past and they always seemed to be bouncy and squeeky so I went with the airbags instead. They ride great because I can adjust them anyway I want.

 

So I assume the results are the same (lift in the rear) and the ride is better than the more rigid ride an AAL would result in???
Do you tow a lot? I would not be...just want a little lift and to keep the ride from being too harsh.

It does seem to be a nice ride. The rear of my truck was already at least 2 inches higher than the front so I wasnt looking for much lift. But with 20 lbs of air in the bags im getting somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of lift. I want to test the different pressures and heights for curiosity. Ill post what I find in the next few days.

They are meant to run anywhere from 5 to 100 lbs and I got them because I haul around 600 lbs in the back fairly often, but im really pleased with the ease of installation and the ride it provides even when unloaded.

 

Hmm, which bushings do you mean? I got the 5100 shocks and put the stock coils onto them and installed them. Aside from the bushings that come in the 5100's themselves I didnt change any out. Should I have?

Air Lift 59561's new-in-box for half what I've been seeing online....but I havent seen any pics of them installed on a Taco.

I'm kinda like you...I haul a 65 gallon tank full of liquid in my truck 1 or 2 days a week.....need something to take care of the squat when its loaded

oo ok, i was just wondering, bcuz i ordered some 5100's but they dont come with bushings i guess, i think i might get some from toytec or the dearlership.
I should be receiving my 5100's today so ill se if they really did or didnt come with them.

Ok here are some pictures. Sorry for the quality of the pics, the wife is using the camera for a wedding this week so its gone. These are on my phone. There are some of the stance of the truck with 5100's at 2.5 inches and 20 lbs of air in the bags. Also are some pics of the mounting of the bags and where I decided to put the Schrader valves on the underside of the bumper. There were already holes there so it worked out until I get an onboard compressor. With 10 lbs in the back its close to level with the front and the ride is just about like stock. With more air it will lift up another inch or so but the ride gets bumpy.

 

I forgot to mention they have a lifetime warranty also, so no issues with the bags failing or anything like that.

 

i have a 2009 prerunner with the tsb rear and stock billies and would love to install the air ride bags but would like to know if it gives an extra 2inches or so do i need longer rear shocks. Also i noticed today when i had 150+ pounds in the bed the truck road "smoother" is this how it rides with the recommended 20 lbs. or are these just for towing/carrying heavy loads all the time?
