I guess my lift was called a 2 inch lift. OME 885s WITHOUT the top spacer.
The amount of lift you'll see from before and after measurements will depend on how worn out your old parts were. I measured 3 inches lift in the front but I know my stock springs had sagged a lot and one of the stock struts had been leaking. Someone else might only measure 2 inches lift by installing the same setup if their stuff isn't worn out so much.

Thanks for the excellent write up. I was just installing 5100's all around, but 80% of this still applied.

The part that didn't work out for me was trying to get the bottom of the strut back into the LCA mount. I tried everything suggested, but couldn't get it back in there. Tried several pry spots, but didn't want to risk breaking the brake line or ABS wires.

In about 2 hours of frustration, I stumbled on the solution, and even ended up pushing the strut mount in by myself, but still required the help of my wife to get the bolt installed.

What I did, was climb up into the wheel well, placing my hand right on the ball joint on too of the UCA, then placed my outside knee on top of the caliper. Then I just pushed against those two points with my back against the wheel well, and it's like the whole assembly dropped 2+ inches! It was such a relief after struggling for so long, wondering what to do.

Taking all my borrowed tools from Advance Auto back for $Free.99!

You can re-use the existing ones that are currently on your truck.

The only disadvantage is you need to have a shop with a spring compressor disassemble your old coilover assembly and assembe the new one with the new springs.

Spring compressors you can rent to use yourself down at e.g. Napa typically aren't strong enough to compress the OME springs.

I'm finally finished. I decided not to use the top plate spacer and I'm happy with my decision. However it sounds like the aal is squeaking, is that normal? Will it go away with time?

Kudos to the Moose! Great write-up and pics!!!

I went with the OME 2" heavy kit (towing and trail armor) and installed as soon as I purchased the truck. I installed the drive-line spacer (4-door 6' bed) and the diff drop for good measure and haven't encountered any drive line issues after 15k on the lift.

Maybe I should have made some measurements before and after but I gambled that OME did their homework. Your attention to detail should be commended BTW.

The only downside to the kit is that the truck was dead level before I put on the All-Pro bumper and skid plate and now the front has settled down a bit. I got the heavy kit to avoid sag. Maybe I'll cheap out on a 1/2 spacer? Dunno yet. Throwing a lot more $$$ at the suspension isn't an option right now.

EDIT: Have been informed by many gurus that OME upgraded/fixed their front springs, so the old 885 or 886 have become 885X and 886X, which can be found on a dainty little tag when you get the spring. The "X" series isn't prone to sag. Dunno if there are any of the older version still being sold or if there are still some floating around in warehouses.

Follow up: Verified mine were the newer 886X. No kidding, they still sag like a mutherf@c(er. So, in went the 13mm spacer. I did recover 1" of lift, and the overall rake on the truck is 1/2".

Spray silicone lube will do the trick. The Dakar's I ran on my 95 developed a squeak as they began to accumulate surface rust and dirt, so I sprayed the hell out of them. It doesn't look pretty, but it'll get the job done.

"MAJOR PROPS" to you moose for the helpful write up on the ome kit!!!!

i just installed the 3" leaf pack w/shocks today and what a "HELP" it has been!!!!!!! and its good to have a ipad too!!!

i had a pro comp 3" kit before but my friend did it and couldnt remember how to do it again (he wasnt there to help).

p.s. that bottle jack theory made it sooo much easier too!!!

If I'm replacing my UCAs at the same time, will that make more room for me to get the new shock in or am I still going to have to force down the lower control arm to make some room? Will I still need to separate the tie rods?

If you pull the UCA out you dont need to mess woth the tie rods, there is enough room. I had to pry my lca just a little bit, barley any force to work the eye of the shock in, this was with OME 885s and nitrochargers. I got the shock in place, then shoved a catspaw in between the eye of the shock and the LCA mounting location, made it really easy to line everything up and push the bolt thru.

What direction do the axle shims go in? The narrow end facing the front or the back? Lift gets here Monday, doing the install next Saturday. Can't wait!

Narrow to the front. But I didn't bother adding any when I did mine.

Thanks. I ordered them with the kit, just in case. I'm still debating using them. I have some vibes stock so maybe the lift will "cure" them.
