rear uneven

hey all, i got an add a leaf for back of my 05 acc cab tacoma to bring 1.5" lift with skyjacker shocks. now it is clear that the driver side is lower then the passenger side. i had springs re-arched but driver side is still lower. what , if any, is a safe fix for this to level it?

I'm a bit confused..... you have re-arched springs & an Add-a-leaf?

When were the leafs re-arched? or how long have they been re-arched?

When did you install the Add-a-leaf?

Or did you get this all done at the same time? Had the leafs re-arched and had a shop make you an additional leaf?

i had addaleafs added about 3 months ago. then just yesterday i had a shop re-arch because they were very uneven. but they are still uneven after re arching.

Sorry for all the questions....

You had the shop re-arch only the Add-a-leafs? Both Add-a-leafs?

Or did you have the shop re-arch the entire leaf pak? And the Add-a-leaf?

the older gen tacos had the infamous "taco lean" due to the gas tank being on the driver side... maybe the newer tacos are similar?

Sounds like the infamous gangsta taco lean. A few people have has success with re-arched leafs, but since you've already tried that, Toyteclifts.com offers a 1/2" spacer that they say helps with the lean.

mine is an 05 access cab,is 05 considered old generation? same style 05-08, i can tell it leans because more of the shock shows on the driver side then it does on passenger. i dunno its crazy, ever since re-arch sometimes it leans and sometimes it doesnt. thanks for the note about a half inch spacer, i will check into that if it gets worse. that spacer shows only for front of truck though on toytec.

Give it some time to settle...... and maybe add some weight in the bed to help it settle.

I had my leafs re-arched in my 96 and they were like 3.5" lift when first arched and settled to be 2". And yes, I did have a about 1/2" lean after everythign settled.

Have you thought about going back to the shop and telling them about it?

i dunno, i dont wanna bring it back up there and it not be leaning, now sometimes it leans and sometimes it doesnt, i mean i cant tell the truck is leaning . i just know because i can see more of the shock on one side. yea janster , its about 1/2 inch or 3/4. i mean i cant tell any lift after they were re-arched. course i have it leveled with skyjacker performance struts in front which bring lift in front to level.

When you fill up with gas next time....take notice to the lean. It'd probably be worse.....

Take some measurements to verify you actually have a leaning problem. Park on level ground, not just flat. A gas station would be a good spot. Measure from the center of the axel to the bottom of the fender. Repeat this for all corners, and be sure to measure the same way each time. Post your results.

There is probably some lean but this may be somewhat of an illusion as the rear shocks are in a different angle of mounting left to right? Left from front and Right from rear.

ahhaa, u may be onto something there,
ok i measured i cant really tell for sure because i have a center piece on my rims. but best i can tell is back driver side from center of rim to center of fender is 23" , passenger side is 23 1/2".
see but my rims have a center piece on them that i dont feel like taking off, plus the fender is slanted so its hard to find the exact point on each side.
i mean can u guys see on yours,what im talking about though?
what is re-arching suppose to do? i almost feel like adding another leaf on each side, but then i would have 5 on each side. and the swayaways would not go up far enough because i think another leaf would bring another 1.5" in lift and i cannot stand leaning forward.

When you took your truck in to get the leafs re-arched...what did you tell them? How long has it been since you got this done? Why did you get the leafs re-arched in the first place? Were you trying to lift the truck?

Sorry for the questions again...

Re-arching isn't an exact science and the shops have no way of getting the springs matched perfectly. Re-arching can sag over time also. I actually had the shop make an extra leaf to help prevent sagging.... and it helped. But again - I had *the lean* also and gave up after 2 years of chasing it. Putting a spacer in one side up front can help the appearance if it bothers you that much. A 1/4" spacer mounted ontop the coil assembly will give you 1/2" lift.

If you just got the springs re-arched, I would put some weight in the bed (200+lbs) and wait for a bit. Get the springs settled and see what happens.

And yes, a full tank of gas weighs a lot more than an empty tank of gas and could cause an affect on the springs.

been about a week, just told them it was un even and i was told i needed to re-arch, they were a spring shop and specialized in it for past 30 years and knew exactly what i was talking about.
i already got lift from adding skyjacker addaleaf,
how is a spacer up front going to level the back and where would u get a 1/4" spacer. lowest i have seen is a 1/2" spacer.

If its only been a week....then I would take your truck back to the shop and tell them it's still uneven. See if they have any suggestions for you.

Other than that - I'd put some weight (200lbs) in the bed for a month or so, and hope it settles out.

Ironically - a front spacer wouldn't fix the problem but by installing a spacer on the front might pitch the rear enough so you don't notice it as much. It's definately a bandaid....and not quarenteed to work at all.
Rancho used to sell 1/4" thick (1/2" lift spacers) that you'd put on the top of the coil assembly. Easy to install.

If the shop can't do anything for you and it doesn't settle - you're better off just ignoring the fact that its not perfectly level.
