well........to me, if you are doing the aal's in the rear, the 5100's will be fine. the 5125's are a bit longer, so i honestly dont know if they would be that great, or better than the 5100's.

Here is my note to Kirk and his response.

    "Kirk,
I posted a thread on TacomaWorld.com about the lift we have been discussing. Someone asked why I am going with the 5125's in the back instead of the 5100's. I just remember on the phone with you, you mentioned the 5125's. Now I don't know which one's I should use?
    Thanks,

    Hello again,
There isn't a rear 5100 for a 05+ taco that is a true 2" longer.. Ya they list the c476 .. I have them in stock.. But that is the same length as the factory shock.. I wish I could find a 5100 that is a true 2" longer ..(with the correct valving) If you see one let me know.. Besides some of these guys on the Boards are great at drilling people with questions and treating others like idiots.. They probably haven;t ever looked for the shock in the correct length.. Some one sold them the factory length ones and they never checked for themselves ,, Cause they were on the computer acting as a critic...
Sorry to be so blunt.. I just love critic's that have no legs to stand on.. I do get that question fairly often .. That is what I tell every one..
    Thanks Kirk

Im running the c476's in the rear and am VERY happy with them. Yeah, they are the same length as stock, but they have a "top out" damper built into the shock. They are valved PERFECTLY for the Tacoma. They flex very good, and I have about 2" lift in the rear. You will be fine with the 5100's.

    Timmer,
Thanks for the info. Will probably stay away from 285's. Will stay with 265/75 or 275's. As for my budget the 1,000 +/- is only for the lift. not tires.

    Question about the billies,
Excuse my ignorance but if I get an AAL that would rais the back up 2", wouldn't that make sence to get the longer shocks (5125s). What is the difference between these and the 5100's other than length?

5125's are valved differently. They are a "heavy duty" shock aplication.
IMHO, try the 5100's and if you dont like it, get a shock extender.

Shim's and a diff drop are both cheap right? Why not do it anyway? Are there negatives?
What is the advantage of the 5100's in the rear compaired to the 5125's? Since the 5125's are heavy duty do they ride stiffer? I don't do heavy duty offroading or carry loads over 500lbs. Mostly just carry 2 dirt bikes. Combined weight is about 350lbs.

    getting there....
the 5125's may be valved a little stiffer than the 5100's, so im pretty sure the 5100's will ride smoother. do you have the harsh ride tsb done?? if not.......get it done.....its gonna give a little lift in the rear....and you can always add an aal to that for more height. the truck actually rides better with the 4 leaf pack(tsb....no aal) as opposed to the 3 leaf stock setup. im just saying,as before, that the 5100's in the rear will be fine for you. and you are right..........diff drop will not hinder performance.......and it keeps stress of the u-joints, which is good. shims may or may not be needed....just depepnds on if you have vibrations or not.......also, you can use washers for the center support bearing as to keep the drive shaft straight. or, you can do as some have, and get a tom woods driveshaft to eliminate driveline vibes almost completely. hope this helps in what you are looking for.

    A few bolts are different.
on my 4x4 i had the vibration for about for about 2 months but it went away. when i put my lift on i had no idea about this website to get answers...hope nothings worn out from it....fingers crossed. i'm going to put 1" blocks in the rear with my AAL's because the rear is not level with the front, AAL's have settled after being lifted almost 2 years. I should probably get the carrier bearing drop right? shims and blocks are dangerous?

Yea alot of people seem to not like blocks which is understandable. but i'm looking at $70 for a set of 1" blocks with u-bolts +$10 for the carrier bearing drop or just replacing the leafs with OME Dakar's for alot more money i dont have:confused: ...dont know what to do. The addiction to this truck is getting bad and I got no more $$$$............

Maybe consider an AAL. I have seen to many broken blocks on the trail, and even on the street.

already got Proccomp AAL's on there but after being used 2 years on my DC LB they seemed to have settled, would get the TSB if my dealer would allow it on an 05 with 56000 miles. guess the best route would be get some new 3" lift springs from AllPro or OME?

It seems to vary, vehicle to vehicle.
