TSB and AAL

I feel totally dumb but I am seeing a ton of post about TSB and AAL with the dealership changing them out to help with towing and load carrying but am confused on what it actually is. Can someone help me out please?? I have a 2011 4x4 sports SR5 and just want to know if this is something I should look into getting. This is my first 4X4 truck which is why I am confused with the off road truck talk. Thanks allot. Please don't judge lol

 

TSB is simply where Toyota adds a leaf with a new lift spring pack (some do it for height, some like the ride a little stiffer, sone both). On non TRD packages they replace the suspension. It is free, call and set up a appointment.

AAL or add a leaf, you buy it to however high you want, and install it yourself.

You can do both for a bigger lift if you'd like.

 

Be aware, it will stiffen up the ride a bit and give you about 1" in rear lift when it settles.

 

TSB is Technical Sevice Bulletin and there are many of them foe the Tacoma. One happens to be for rear leaf springs. Some TSB's should be recalls, but since they do not tell anyone but the dealers about them, it saves Toyota money and screws the rest of us. If you don't complain to your dealer about the poor leaf springs, they will not tell you about them. Same for all the other TSB's. That way after you pass 36,000 miles they will say "To bad, you want it fixed then you have to pay." There many TSB's for 05-09 Tacomas and these may include the 2010 & 20011 but you will have to find out if they apply to yours or if they were fixed by the new model year etc...

thanks a ton so i just need to call and complain about the rear leaf springs then i will get the new higher stiffer ones? complain about bottoming out with load in it or what ? i just wanna bullshit the dealer without them thinking im bullshiting them.

 

yeap you just answered your question. Call act like when you have something in the back it bottoms out and is very soft. Tell them you talked to Toyota and they said it was a " Harsh Ride" bulletin. Somewhere on here you can find the exact document, print it out, and take it to the dealer so no questions could be asked.

 

Just made an appt fot tomorow to have the squeak looked at. the svc guy even said if it is the springs, there will be a much stiffer ride. anyone have any exp with this, just want to know how much stiffer not sure it will be worth it.

 

It's not much stiffer. I actually think it rides better! It's hard to explain but as soon as you drive one with it done you'll notice it.

 

With the non-trd option package, they replace the shocks and struts with billstein 5100's that are adjustable correct? Or is it another series of Bilstein? Sorry if this is a stupid question? Taking forever to search forum through and find this answer

 

For the older TSB, they would replace the shocks and struts with Bilstein shocks, NOT the 5100's. It's the same ones that came stock on the TRD Sport and Off Road models. Still better than the Tokiko shocks that came on the SR5 and base models. I don't think your truck will qualify, the TSB is covered in the 3 yr 36k mile bumper to bumper warranty. I think you're a little late.
