Thread that nut back on but leave it loose. Give it a good whack with a rubber mallet. Both mine came off fairly easy. Good luck!

it can be a little tight, but it will come off as long as you took off the castle nut. try hitting the UCA up with a mallet. spraying the bolt with wd 40 or pb blaster or something like that will help too

The correct way is with a ball joint seperator. It is a tapered fit. First you should strap the spindle to the UCA with something so they don't just fall out and break the brake lines. Then use a hammer and give the spindle short sharp strong blows on the flat spot right next to the ball joint. They will pop out after a few blows. remember when you put them back together you will need to push the ball joint back into the spindle as far as you can get it and finger tighten the castle nut. If you rely on the castle nut to bring the two together the ball joint will simply spin and you will damage the grease boot. This will be pretty tough because it will take a lot of down pressure on the UCA to get them all the way together since the UCA is preloaded. Or you can loosen the UCA bolt just remember to preload the suspension before you retighten the UCA bolt.

First of all thanks for your help. Now back to the issue at hand...I took the bolt off and then loosely wired the spindle to the uca. And I did wacked it several times with a rubber mallet but it is really freaking tight and isn't budging. Ill try spraying it with some WD40.

You need to hit the spindle next to the ball joint with a real metal hammer. Its the shock of the blow that gets it to come apart.

If you are looking at the spindle you will see where the ball joint connects then there is a right angle where the metal goes down to the rest of the spindle. Hit it on that flat spot there with a metal hammer. Like i said, short sharp blows.

***DO NOT HIT THE BALL JOINT STUD WITH THE HAMMER***

You're just installing new 5100's? Removing the sway bar might be a lot easier. I never had to disconnect the UCA's to install coils.

What he said. Just be careful not to hit the rubber on your balljoint or you will cut it.

    1. Crow's foot extension.
    2. Wrench extension.
    3. Do some calculations to figure out the required bolt stretch to get 70% of yield strength, multiply by thread pitch to figure out the required fractions of a turn after rundown.
    3. "Eeeeeh, that's about right..."
