Diff drop kit still needed for a 2.5" lift on a first gen?

I know that this question gets asked a lot on this site, but I have not been able to find a definitive answer if a diff drop is really needed for a 2.5" lift on a first gen. From the research that I've been able to come up, it seems that most people do the diff drop for lifts 3" and taller, but I wanted to know if you guys still recommended one for a 2.5" lift. I don't want to potentially wear out the CV's by not doing it, but then again it would be nice to keep as much ground clearence as possible since I'm only doing a small lift.

Basically I'm planning to lift my truck in the near future with the common set up of Billy 5100's with stock springs and 1.5" Wheelers AAL for the rear.

Thanks guys...
