grinder or cutoff wheel for rivet: spring retainer (AAL Install)

So i went to install my 3 leaf AAL from Wheeler's Offroad today. I get my truck taken apart and go to put on the AAL. No centering pin...no retainer bolts. They were not included in the box w/ the leaf pack. Called Wheeler's and they're shipping me the parts but it will be a couple days till they get here. Looks like I'll be rockin the ford escort station wagon for a while, compliments of my dad.

Anyway, I had a question about the retaining clamp on the back of the stock leaf pack. It needs to come off in order to fit the new AAL on. The AAL has it's own retaining clamp back there, so I need to cut the old one off.

Problem is, it's riveted on. Can I use an electric angle grinder to grind off that big rivett? Or do I have to use a cutoff wheel or something? I don't have either of those tools, and I also don't have an air compressor to run air tools...so i looks like I might have to go with the angle grinder. Should I use the disc that comes w/ it, or will I have to get a special "cut-off" disc or something?

Thanks for the help guys.

You can either grind it of or cut it off. Just grind it straight down, fush with your leaf (dont grind into the leaf) then just bang it through with a screwdriver.

Personally, I'd cut it real close with a cutoff wheel, then finish it off with the grinding wheel. Cutoff wheels are like $3-5, just make sure you get the right type for your grinder.

easypeasey.
