Im installing my 1.5" AAL today, so I've been reading a lot of the install threads. Some of them are saying to make sure you have the longer part of the AAL pointed towards the rear of the truck. My problem is, the hole for the centering pin is exactly in the middle of my AAL, and no side is longer than the other. Did Toytec send me the wrong part?

What do your instructions say? Is there any visible markings on the AAL that tell you what direction to install them?

Call Toytec and ask.....or search for pictures online to get references.

I believe the instructions toy-tec sends are for all their ALL but the 1.5" does have a centered hole there is not a longer side. I installed them last week. If you read them carefully it says if you have a "certain type" of ALL you need to make sure the longer part pointed toward the rear

My Icon Progressive 3-leaf AAL is not symmetrical.

I think the standard one-leaf AAL is symmetrical.

I didn't buy new U-bolts so I'm hoping the stock ones will be long enough too.

I just installed the same aal and asked the same question to Dylan. The tsb aal has the pin hole in the middle. I measured the hole to end of both and they where within a 1/8 of and inch. Check the arch of both , one of mine had a little bit more of arch and i put it on the drivers side for the gas tank. I would really recommend new u bolts tho. have heard of them getting loose after re-torqueing them twice or more. If you are going to re-use then really keep an eye on them and use a thread locking compound. Torque to 75 lbs.
    good luck.
Pics of my aal installed are in my gallery.

Well I dont have a torque wrench so I'm just going to get them as snug as I can and regularly check them.

Oh man, if you're doing stuff to your truck a torque wrench is right up there with the most necessary tools.

Classic Janster advice here. Do you ever actually have any answers to provide, or just questions in response to people's questions?

U bolts are generally not to be re used, 'cause they stretch.

I wouldn't trip too hard on it , just remember that if you ever encounter an AAL that the hole is offset (one side longer than the other) the longer side goes towards the back. As for the U bolt thing its usually best to get new ones because of thread stretch, but I've reused others before with no issues under these conditions : If the nuts holding U-bolts are hard to take off even after they are no longer 'tight" against the U-bolt clamp or axle, I'd prbably opt for new ones because these are stretched too much & will more than likely strip threads before getting tightly secured...;)
