Squeaky Dakars : Any advice from others with the Dakars ?

Any tricks into getting the leafs separated.....mine are pretty damn stiff and nearly impossible to separate...

 

I drove a big screwdriver in from each side just ahead or behind of wear I wanted to slide in the EPDM strip

 

I only got the screwdriver under one leaf....maybe I just need to beat the crap out of it to get it in there.

 

I use a screwdriver from each side , do one leaf at a time , for instance , I pry apart the top leafs , slide the EPDM strip in , centring the strip , release that leaf , seperate the next ones down , slide the tail of the EPDM in from each side , release those ones

So you have a solid strip from to to bottom?

 

No , there are isolators on the lower leafs , I only use the strip on the upper leafs that lack the factory isolators

The strips I use are approx 2" x 12"

I don't remember it being all that hard to get a screw driver in there. Did it both with the truck jacked up and sitting on the ground. Maybe I'm stronger than I thought?!

 

I had to put a c clamp on mine and remove the centering pin to get my strips in and get the half of the screwdriver out I broke off between them

 

I spoke with a guy in "Technical Support" who told me he is mailing out anther Center Pin to me for free. He said having a bent one would more than likely be problematic down the road.

 

That's crazy. Mine aren't that tight. Maybe the tighter ones will be less likely to squeak???
