another tire fitment question w, procomp 3 inch lift

i have a procomp 3 inch complete lift. and i'm wondering what if i can fit a 295-70-17 or a 33-12.50 17 on procomp wheels model 7028. how much if any cutting will be involved?

That's a little bigger than my tires - I think it's about the size that especk is running (33x12.5) He removed his fender flares completely. I run 285/70R17 and I trimmed mine way back at the front and rear, as well as trimming back inner wheel well plastic front and rear, and ultimately put on Bushwackers which I also trimmed way back at the front and rear.

A heat gun is also a useful tool for bending that soft plastic to increase your clearance. Rear clearance is ultimately limited by the pinch weld and cab mount.

You're still running stock UCAs, right? At that size, still might have to do a cab mount chop, but with stock UCAs, might not have to.

Ultimately, I'm pretty happy with how my 285/70R17s look and perform. You'd be hard pressed to find an obstacle that you could clear with 295/70R17 that you couldn't also clear with the 285/70R17, and the 285 is gonna fit in the wheelwell a little better.

 

thanks moose i was checking out your build before it looks great! glad to hear from another regular cab guy with a similar setup. i will stick with the size your recomending. as i do plan on running stock uca's and i'm not sure about the off set on my wheels but i can check into that. any pics of what you had to trim exactly to fit that size gy mtr under there? btw how are the good year mtr's?

i was told today by the guy at truck add ons that a 285-70r17 was almost 32 inches? am i missing something here i thought that was a 33 inch tire. apparently a 295-70-17 is a true 33 inch tire. sorry i know there is a calculator on here for converting metric to standard lol, but when i look at it my brain literally turns off. when i first bought the truck and i was looking at the biggest size tire i could fit with out a lift i looked at it then i pissed my pant's and forgot who i was for an hour...

 

Depends on the mfr but yeah the Goodyear mtr are 33.0x11.5

 

And I'm happy with mine. Work great for how I use the truck.

 

he has a different set up in some way's he is running lr uca's which i'm going to try to do with out if i can help it. i need to see how close they can get it to factory specs when they align it. he posted some pics in another thread showing a little of what he had to cut out to make things work. i want to be able to stuff them with out much drama. moose has a fucking great idea! using the heat gun awesome stuff right there! it's simple and i probably would have never thought about that. when you guy's refer to the cab mount chop what exactly are you cutting out? it's obvious i'm missing something here. i don't mind a little trimming and or melting things to fit a bit w, a heat gun, but i would like to avoid cutting parts of the frame or sub frame or even cutting huge chunks out of the wheel well plastic or fender flare on a truck thats still under warranty. that and i want to have a good idea before buy something that will lock me into any kind of unwanted modding lol.

 

i'm sorry so to clarify a 285-70-17 =33/11.50? once again the heat gun idea is pretty crafty dude i like that idea alot more than cutting stuff

 

so there is welding involved as well lol! idk man i want the bigger tires i don't know if i have the balls and i def don't have the equipment to do this mod. when i get everything in and all ready to go we will see i might not need this if i go with the 285-70-17 size. some of the guy's with the pro comp lift i have coming are getting like a solid 4 inches and apparently even after breaking in they are still above three inches. who knows i'll have to see. thank you very much for the pictures bud now i know what i might be facing in the near future. your truck is legit to man great build up!!

 

when i ordered the lift i went and had them send out a revtech diff drop for it as well the only concern i have is the high clearance skid from all pro i'm wondering now if that will be a problem.if i end up doing the cab chop i would want it welded to lol i would not leave it open either.

 

i def want to do some off roading now that i will have the lift on lol. i have not really broke it in off road yet.

 

i will probably have to use washers on the damn thing lol but its still better than the factory splash gaurd. i'm down in camden county area i think you guys are north of me. that lift is coming this weekend i was planning on the instal with my sister lol. i was going to have her document it if all goes well so there is a write up for the 4cyl guy's who want to run this kit.

 

Yeah, it depends on the tire and manufacturer. But for Goodyear MT/R Kevlars, the 285/70R17 size is 33x11.5.

Yeah the heat gun worked out well. But I still ended up trimming plastic.

Here's what I cut from the front. I think you'll recognize these bumps.



And a simple bracket I fabbed up to reinforce the plastic after I cut it, and also pull it forward out of the way.



All the plastic on the ground in this picture was trimmed away from the new bushwacker fender flares to create additional clearance in the front.

I ultimately did a cab mount chop - but only after I replaced the UCAs to improve my alignment. That decreased clearance at the back of the wheelwell a bit.

I don't weld, so I had that work done for me.

 

thanks for the pics steve thats not bad at all. so no cab chop for you right? yeah i think i'm either going to stick with the dura tracs or go with the kevlars not decided i've not really decided on which yet. your ome kit is a true 3 inch kit to right? if so i think i might get by with just a little trim like you did hopefully

 

right on i see what your saying maybe i can have it done for me as well. the shop i got my exhaust done at should be able to help out.

 

do you know of any good 4x4 shops around here i might need help with the lift lol. it just came today via ups dude i'm totally stoked to put it in but now i realized i need dust boots for the rears as the kit did not come with them. 4wheelparts.com said it did shows up today no dust boots! you have any idea where i can pick up a set of these locally?

I just bought some 33x12.50R18 Nitto mud Grapplers, and I am planning on running this procomp 3". I believe i will be able to clear them (minor trimming) anyone have any pics?
