Best replacement shocks?

Looking to replace the shocks on my '07 SR5 4WD (2.7 5-speed stick) and wondered what you guys recommend for normal driving, 98% pavement duty. Present shocks are the factory originals with 75K miles. I pull a lightweight trailer sometimes on weekends with less than 100 lbs. tongue weight and often have product in the bed for work that could weigh as much as 500 lbs. I want a smooth ride on the highway, but something that doesn't cave under the demands described above.

I am at the same point (need to replace shocks) and basically same usage except it's a 2007 DC V6 PreRunner LWB.

Why recommend 5100s? Aren't those for off-road use and with lift kits? What about Bilstein Heavy Duty (HD) Shocks considering mostly road use with some towing and hauling?

 

do you just have the oem black shocks on there? fwiw, you can get your hands on "trd" springs and yellow shocks (springs "may" be the same depending on truck) so essentially the trd springs and shocks for way under a hundred usually.

Sometimes the front springs and shocks are together, sometimes you need to squeeze them together but what ever way you cut it..you're getting a front set up for under a bill and then just get the back yellow bils...for maybe another bill.

Hell i have a full set i got for a case of beer that i'll put in when the first set of TRD finally wear out............apparently no one wants them but they are worlds better than the base black oem toyota bils.

get a dinky spacer when doing this swap and you get a level ride out of the deal all for 100 dollars if you play it right and luck out. oem toyota trd stuff is very good stuff.

Im thinking about getting some of these....do they come both front and rear or do you buy seperate?

Reviews and opinions for KYB Gas-a-just look good. Front and rears for about $200.00 from some of the on-line places.

 

Thanks all. Yes replacing the OEM black shocks no TRD here (at 107k miles and a decent amount of towing 5000 lbs, my truck rides like a pillow :/ ) After reading around here more seems like the 5100s are unanimous along with eibach springs. Will try them both out and I look forward to seeing a ride, handling change.

 

If I'm riding an 11' taco trd dbl cab... pulling a one axle camper camping once a month... what would you recommend for best shocks, new to tw. I'm at 118k miles and need to replace old shocks. Mostly ride in town or on highways but looking for a smoother ride. Thanks everyone !

 

Find a set of TRD takeoffs from a newer low mileage truck. There should be someone local who has recently lifted their truck that will give you a good deal.

 

Are trd take offs the best, sorry kinda new to this but are you referring to a certain brand or make shock or can I only find them used ?
