just bought a 2011 dclb sport 4x4 with a 3" revtek lift on it
    here is the link:http://store.revtek.com/products/productdetail/part_number=426A/1909.0

now what i am wondering is if i wanted to take that lift out, and put a different 3" in, would i be missing anything? the truck did not come with any stock parts. or do the revtek lifts just bolt into place?

Don't get a 6 inch. But if you must, just wait until you can afford it. Don't waste your time and money on another 3" lift.

Well 6" is a drop bracket, so you have to cut the stock cross member and actually dropping it (hence drop bracket) IIRC all those kits are usually aal's and blocks in the rear (guys upgrade to bigger leaf packs). They are pretty expensive and if you want to run 35"s you might still have to do some trimming and maybe the cab mount chop.

Its really a love hate relationship on this site. Some guys love it most guys hate them.

Just do your research before buying anything.... i.e. search, read the FAQ in the suspension sections.

There is also a rcd 4.5" lift and guys love that because its a lower profile drop bracket (IIRC) and you can add icon coil overs to get more lift. But I'm sure some drop bracket guys will chime in.

I wanted a db in the begining but I talked to a bunch of guys that have them and they said stick with the 3" and regreting the db came up in the convo and if you ever want to go back you have to re weld your stock cross member in place...

What do you plan on doing with this truck? Daily Driver? Lots of wheeling? Mall Crawling/show truck?

People don't like the spacer lift because it pushes the whole strut assembly down, thus giving the lift. The problem is that the LCA now has more up travel, but the strut does not. Normally, on a stock truck, when you compress the strut all the way the bump stop should hit before the strut bottoms out. With the top plate spacer lift, the whole strut was pushed down lower than it was before, which means the shock will bottom out before the bumpstops hit. With a top plate spacer like the Revtek lift has (I think), the ride shouldn't be much different than it was stock, unless you bottom out the struts, then it might be pretty harsh. If all you are going to do is drive on paved roads/a few gravel roads then this lift may work for you.

A drop bracket lift gives more frame clearance, but it doesn't give any more clearance to the front of the truck. It uses brackets to drop the whole 'axle' assembly down lower, but it doesn't actually get it higher off the ground. It's similar to lifting the back end. If you put a 6 inch block on the rear, the axle stays the same distance from the ground, but the frame/body etc are lifted 6 inches higher. The only way to get more 'axle' clearance for a DB lift, or for the rear axle, is to run bigger tires. IMO, having to cut parts out, and putting a big bracket in would weaken the front end. Also, the extra height messes up the center of gravity, making it more likely of rolling over. If all you are going to do is drive on paved roads/a few gravel roads/mall crawl then this lift may be right for you.

A 3 inch lift done right with, say, an Old Man Emu lift would lift the truck with new coil springs, and use struts with more travel. This should let everything compress to the bumpstops when the tires are stuffed. The 3 inch front lift pushes everything up, thus giving more clearance. The LCA's are still near the ground, but it is not as bad as what a DB lift would do, plus you haven't cut anything out.

If you want to wheel, then upgrading your 3 inch lift may be a good idea. Some of your options (priced lowest to highest) are:
    • Bilstein 5100 leveling struts ~$300
    • Old Man Emu complete lift ~$800+
    • Fox/King/Icon Coilovers ~$1000++++

The Old Man Emu lift just for the front is around $400. I have it in the front of my truck, and I like it. If you get the AAL/rear shocks then it is closer to $800. This would be a really good setup IMO.

The Old Man Emu/Bilsteins would also be good for a daily driver.
If you want to spend a couple grand, then get some King Coilovers, some new UCA's, and new rear leaf packs. That would be a sick setup.

Somewhere in that list some ProComp 3 inch lifts could be thrown in there as well.

The Bilstein 5100's only lift up to 2.5 inches, so to get slightly more lift people buy Eibach lift springs for the front, and run them along with the 5100's. This is a similar setup to the Old Man Emu one.

Figure out what you want to do, and how much you are willing to spend.

its your truck,i have the 6inch,running 285/65/18,which is equal to 33/13.50/15.i have more than enough clearance and don't need a gear swap.i average 20 mpg.i do a lot of muddin so thats why i chose 6-inch.also it wasn't much more for the 6-inch,than what the other guys are running.my truck is built for a purpose, and i use it as such.good luck.
