3" lift vs 6" lift

I have a 2.5 spacer kit om my 08 4x4 tacoma with 285 tires. Now I want to up grade to a 6" lift, but many experts are telling me to go with a 3" lift, but I see all these cool tacomas with 6" lifts.Dude at latest 4x4 expo told me you have to cut the frame for a 6" lift. What's up with that?

For a 6" lift you gotta cut the front crossmember. It's a DB (drop bracket) lift. You in turn have less than stock clearance on the bottom. So more or less, if it's a street truck and it's solely for looks, go for it. If you are into offloading, do a good 3" lift and run 33s. Or hell, some guys even have gotten away with 35s on a 3" lift.

6" lifts require a drop bracket and thats why most guys including myself aren't fond of them. Thats why the majority of us go with the 3" lift.

Also, something to keep in mind:

If you ever want to remove the 6" and put it either back to stock or run a 3" lift, it requires a lot more work than putting a 3" lift on and removing if ever wanting to go back to stock or change the setup. Just an FYI.

i got procomp stage II. i wheel the shit outta my truck. i guess the only thing i worry about is hitting the front cross members n the rear axle when wheeling. other than that, there is alot of clearance IMO. i also decided to invest in sliders... just in case. also one bad note is that the 6in has a higher center of gravity n is less maneuverable around obstacles, but thats where if ur careful u can just crawl over it.

Taller tires will infact add ground clearance. For example, if you go from a 31" tire to a 33" tire, you're adding an 1" of ground clearance.

Yes, but a 3" lift will still have more ground clearance than a 6" drop bracket lifted one.
