Rubbing with 3" pro comp lift kit

First of all, this is my first post so don't hate any help is greatly appreciated...

Had the complete 3" pro comp lift kit installed at about 1000 mileage, it's at 5000 now... Done at 4 wheel parts in Fresno, CA. Got some pro comp 17" wheels on with some 33s 285 M/T BFG... Was told there weren't going to be any rubbing... But obviously they don't know...was reading the forums here and done some trimming of my own... Got it trimmed to the point where it wasn't rubbing in town but when I head out to the mountains paved roads I get these major rubs on sharp turns and big curves... My traction control would come and engage the breaks to help...but this rubbing would occur mostly from right turns... Almost got in this huge car accident one day coming back from Auberry, going down hill making a right turn on this curve and then bang! The biggest rub I had where it popped the wheels back over to the center which prevented me from staying on my lane, fortunately my breaks works... Was going about 45 mph on the curve... The incoming car stopped on time and I was able to get back on my lane... All freaked out I knew I had to bring it in. So, the very next morning I brought it in and told them the story and that they said it wouldn't rub but it did... They told me it shouldn't and that if I even had tires that was 35s it shouldn't rub... They called pro comp and pro comp told them that they never had any problems and that in fact they got one with 35s with no issue... At the end of the day they told me that they order me these 2 things, one went on each side, all it does is make the steering where as if I had a 6" lift kit... Sorry I dont remember what they were called. The manager told me i shouldnt have to worry that i shouldnt have anymore rubbing... Anyways, got these installed and then went back out to test it... Same rubbing going on, very light rub when making left turns but very big rubs on right turns... Got back and told em that it was still rubbing the same as before... So, they did some trimming to the inside... Hopefully this helps, doubt it...

Damn long story... Didn't want to miss anything out. Anyways my point here is that did any one else had similar problem with this lift kit and if anyone knows something that can help me out here?... Any help is appreciated... Thanks in advance!

So did they install wheel spacers? Are you rubbing the cab mount? Pictures would help diagnose the issue. If your rubbing the cab mount do the cab mount chop.

Pictures for further help. And they said 35"s wouldn't rub on your 3" lift....

Your first problem is that you listened to 4 wheel parts. They have no idea what they are talking about, and in general, I tend to believe the exact opposite of what they say.

Everyone had to trim to fit 33's on a 3" lift. Some have to chop and reweld their cab mounts (I think this is your issue). There's no way in hell you can fit 35's on a 3", with an aftermarket front bumper, and some even have to cut their fenders (the metal, not the plastic).

I'm not sure what they would have ordered you for a 6" lift that will alleviate the problem but I sure wouldn't put anything on my truck that i didn't know what it was...especially if 4 wheel parts recommended it. They probably don't even know what it is.

Yes, you do need considerable trimming/heating/reshaping of the inner plastic wheelwell when running the 285/70R17 tire on a 3" lift. But with the 3" pro comp lift and no upper-control-arms, I would not expect you to be rubbing at the cab mount.

But that all sounds like a red herring. I'm not sure that rubbing is your problem at all. Are you sure it is? It sounds like you're having a problem with undesired Vehicle Stability Control engaging. When it kicks in the ABS braking system on one wheel, it'll sound and feel a lot like wheel rubbing.

Search the site for VSC activation issues. Here are a couple threads to get you started. Bottom line - you may need the dealer to do a VSC calibration for you. But you want to do your homework before you go in there, and bring the right documents to the technician, so he's not doing research on your dime.

Also, this sounds like they installed some steering stops for you to decrease your turning radius. After you get everything else worked out - take those damn things off.

go to a shop, get your cab mounts chopped, cut some plastic out, take the steering stops out and then your set

My brother went to 4 wheel parts to get some pro comps installed on his 07 tacoma and they would not install them because he would have rubbing inside of fender and uca. fyi he has 5100 @ .85 and eibach coils for a 2.45'' lift.

Ive got the exact same problem. Scared the hell outa me the first few times it happened on sharp turns and a decent speed. Almost threw me the ditch or the oncoming lane! I've just been taking it slower. I have the .85 5100 and eibach combo.

I plan on getting the cab mount chop done eventually...

This exact thing happened to me in stock trim. It's the VSC.
Turn it off and see if it still does it, (on a slippery surface).

ya, i suggested that but they said getting that will rub the front even more and they have no idea how its rubbing there... If you see it yourself theres about 2-3 inch clearance from the tire and the frame...

Hmm. Really? The vsC might be the problem huh...

When it happens it sounds like the tire is hitting the cab mount and makes that rubbing sounds, along with the "beep beep beep" from the traction control...

I wasnt even close to the cab mounts when I had 285's, just the front plastic like you did.

@PSU taco85: the distance between the uca and the tire seems to be about 2 inches.

and the backspace Im not too sure but pretty sure its 4.5...
