spindles + coilovers??

so im lookin at total chaos' site and they now make a pair of 3.5" lift spindles for the 2nd gen tacos. they say that these can be paired with aftermarket coilovers for up to 6" of lift. hows this possible dont really understand it. are there any negatives to doing it? like crappy alignment, destroying bushings or links at a faster rate?

It's definitely possible. I mean I have the Allied's combined with a Bilstein Coilover. It gave me about 6.5'' of lift up front so I've since then adjusted the coilovers down so there isn't as much of a rake. I'm not really sure how to explain how it works but there are more knowledgeable people on here that will chime in.

from what i understand....the lift spindles lower the tires toward the ground, while keeping all the hookups and connections at stock. then the coilovers lift it like it would a stock vehicle. the lowering spindles on other vehicles work the same way by raising the tires and keeping everything else stock

Spidle lifts are very common on 4x4 and 2 wheelers they drop the location of the spindle , this elimates the need to lower control arms. You can combine the two, i would check angles after adjustments,

Cant run a spindle lift on the second gen. 4x4's. There is no place for the front shafts to pass thru.

All 6 inch generation 2 lifts are drop spindles with new lower control arm cross members.

Lift spindles have no provision for the front drive shafts to pass thru. You can put the lowers whereever you want, the drive shaft cant pass thru a hole that does not exist.

OK, now thats different from what the OP was talking about. He was talking about the 3.5" lift spindles. Yes, 6" spindles have a provision for the front shafts.

I think it's been resolved but...

I spent the time to do this so I'm posting it anyway. The red line is pretty much where the front axle would be.

So yeah, spindle lift + Gen 2 + 4x4 = outa luck.

The truck in question is a prerunner not a 4 by like chris commented on the spindles, no 3.5 drops will not work on a 4x4 obviously.

to help solve any confusion on whether these will work on a 4x4 or not...

direct from the TC website:

Finally a race inspired bolt on lift spindle for your 2005+ Tacoma Prerunner, 06+ FJ 4x2 and 03-07 4Runner 4x2. TOTAL CHAOS spindles are designed to add an additional 3.5” of lift and can be installed with existing aftermarket mid travel upper control arm and coil over shock packages. These systems combined provide 6”+ of lift and maximum cross member ground clearance, allowing you to Install up to a 35” tire. Our tubular tower and plate design features internal gussets along with overlay plates to add strength and reinforcement to proven weak areas. The tower includes a tapered bung that offers a pocket to access the aftermarket uniball conversion nut or thefactory ball joint. The CNC machined billet hub includes a one piece bearing carrier, and caliper mounts that are integrated into the boxed main body. To maximize strength, TC’s spindle was designed to not retain the factory sway bar. With the heavier spring rates of aftermarket coil over shocks and the increased track width provided by the spindles (3/4” per side), the sway bar removal is not noticeable. Removing the sway bar also allows for maximum wheel travel and articulation which will greatly improve the vehicles off road handling and performance. TOTAL CHAOS lift spindles come powder coated black and include a pair of D.O.T. approved stainless extended brake lines. Lift spindles that are intended to be installed with TC long travel systems must be specified at time of purchase. ABS wire tabs and brake line tabs are included to aid in routing the lines away from contact areas to prevent damage to these components.

Probably closer to $1000. They're expensive for several reasons:
1. Development time
2. Cost of manufacturing & materials
3. They're a critical component so a lot of the above goes into them

Look at the prices of upper control arms and you'll wonder the same thing about the price, but all you have to do is break once and you'll find the expense is worth it.

But even after upgrading it's important to remember that nothing is unbreakable.

(not my truck, but he mangled his Allied spindles on the same trip I broke my UCA)
