New Ubolts

    Alright so I used the search function to try and find my answer, but could not find a definite answer to my question, so here it goes!

    I have a 2008 Tacoma and I'm going to get 5100s, 2inch AALs, and 3 degree axle shims from Toytec installed.....am I absolutely going to need longer ubolts? Or will the stock ones work until I can afford to get the All-Pro ubolt flip kit?

    Ok thanks for the answer! Another question came up though....are Ubolts generic? like can I go to a local offroad store and pick some up that would work or do I need to order some online specifically for my truck and have them shipped?

    Not only that....

    But you should never RE-USE old ubolts.

    Ubolts are NOT generic. They come in a variety of thicknesses, lengths, with different bends - round, square, etc.

    If you can't get them at a local shop, then take your old ones (and/or pieces of the old ones) to a local suspension/driveline shop/garage. They will custom bend the ubolts while you wait.

    U bolt "Flip kits" came about from the U bolts/spring mount being mounted more "In board" on the axel. They are used to protect the U bolt ends, and give a little more ground clearance. On newer trucks, the springs are mounted more "Out board", and close to the brakes. While the flip kits still do offer protection from damage, the odds of the U bolts being damaged in the OEM orientation are very slim, unless you do rock crawling, or trails that cause the rear axel to drag, and snag rocks. In this case, you are also going to need a diff skid,transfer skid, fuel tank, and other protection before a flip kit is really nesessary.

    Ok so based upon everbodys' answers, I should be able to pick up a set of extended length ubolts around town somwhere? The reason is, the truck is going to the shop next saturday and with christmas and new years I'm afraid that shipping might not be able to get me any here by then!

    Yes very good point! Even if I do get the flip kit, the bottom of the diff is lower which would require a skid plate for that and one to the gas tank.....etc etc. Plus the problem with trying to hold onto my stock bumpstops with the new all-pro top plates! (i dont have much access to a welder and timbrems are lotsa $$$$$$$)
