Pro's Con's of a 3" or 6" lift

You can run 2-3" of lift in the front without chewing up CVs or ruining the CV boots. After 3" you start to see premature wear on the CV boots, and can start to see premature wear on your ball joints and a harder time getting good alignment numbers without other mods thrown in like UCAs.

A decent budget oriented option for you to consider are the Billie 5100's up front with your oem coils, and an aftermarket set of rear leafs (All-Pro, Dakars, Deavers) and shocks. Install will be straightforward, and with a decent set of 31" A/T tires you'll be plenty capable to have some off road fun.

 

If it's a non-4x4 then I'd go 6" just because I easily could. 4x4, 3" is pretty good before you start running into difficulties with IFS, just depends on your budget. I guess height helps people who run serious mud, but for an all-around vehicle too much height starts getting impractical.

 

I've been 2.5-3" for over 10 years and I have replaced each CV once. I am convinced the replacements were due to hardcore rockcrawling abuse and not the infinitesimal difference in CV angle.

 

Can someone please help me decide what to do about my 09 Taco? I bought it from a dealer and it already had a lift kit on it. I cant even tell what kind of kit it has there are no stickers or anything on it. I noticed a vibration in the the ride so I took it to a drivetrain specialist and discovered that one of the u joints was bad and he also told me my cv axel boots were gone and that was a result of the lift kit. I have done some research on this and from what I have read it sounds like I need a differential drop to change the angle of the cv axels. I have also read that certain types of lift kits require you to make serveral mods to the front end componets of my truck so what I'm asking is there a lift kit I can get that would not require all these changes? I don't do a lot 4 wheeling I just mainly drive it to work and back. I do however use it when I go hunting, putting my boat in, or occasionally pull someone out of a ditch. I would appreciate any advice.
