I have read numerous amount of threads concering suspension lifts, but I need my own advise. I was dead set on the Ultimate Lift Kit with LR UCA's but the more I read I think im second guessing myself. I want to do this right the first and not have regrets. Lift is going on my sons 2008 TRD 4x4 sport (LB) that we just got for him. I dont think he will be doing any real wheeling, but you never know him. I keep read about ICON coilovers and TC UCA's and really need advise. I dont want to start an argument because I know everybody has their own opinion. I will be ordering a lift within a week, because he keeps bugging me about. Rims and tire will be next after I make a decision on lift. If I need to add more info I will. Thanks

Don't quite understand your question or even know if there is one but an icon mid travel & TC UCAs is a solid setup. But if I was in your position and I was buying it for my son I wouldn't she'll out 3 grand for a full icon mid travel setup that he might (and probably will) break. I'd go with 5100s, Ome coils and TC UCAs. Prices are relatively cheap and way cheaper than icon but are good quality.

Is the truck used for serious offroading? If so, icon. If not, Toytec and save yourself some cash.

First, it's advice, not advise. Please have respect for the people coming to help you by formulating your thoughts through proper communication techniques.

Second, what exactly are you asking for? Best lift? Best lift for the money?

    Do these steps:

1.) Formulate your budget. How much are you willing to spend on a lift kit, wheels, tires., etc.? If you save on a lift will you spend it on the others?

2.) Determine your needs. Is this truck going to go into the boonies, be street queen, or something in between? How much in between? 80% road versus 20% offroad? What type of offroading? Forest Service Roads? Gravel drives? Dried-out ravines?

3.) Stop pampering your kid. Make him work for something. Christ, kids get everything handed to them these days...

4.) Come back with a formulated plan on what Steps 1 & 2 are. Then we can help sort everything out and recommend the best lift for your needs and funds.

The Toytec ULK is a good kit but the ICON c/os and TC UCAs will be a better setup. I have the ULK on my 1st gen and I really like it.

it is his own damn money for the lift. We bought the truck as a christmas present and graduation gift. He does work for his money.

Alright, everyone just chill out, look, the man came in here in good faith asking a legit question, let's show him the TW courtesy of a thought-out answer.

IMO, I would say that since it's his money and the budget allows for it, then yes, ICON is really the best of the best here, BUT, that doesn't mean that running 5100's and LR UCA's are worse than ICONS, for what your son wants to do, he would probably never know the difference between the two set-ups and they are both respectable in the 4x4 world. Just the latter option is less $.

Some tend to be rather harsh and jump to conclusions on here. While he did have good advice please just look over the harshness.:D

Naw, I think he's on it, go with the 5100's and LR UCA's and then direct the kid to TW so he can blow whatever cash he has left on mods.

IMO op, you can't go wrong with the ULK. The icons are a " better " lift, but if your son won't be doing much offroading then that's like buying a Ferrari for 35 mph speed limit zones.

Hell, I'm running 5100s and love it, I'm sure he'll love the ULK

Question #1: Has a good budget because he also been saving to do his own build. After lift, rims and tires he is set to get sound system. He know it is costly.

Question #2: In between-It will pretty much 80% road and 20% offroad (Hunting lease roads/trails and following friends with other 4x4 when needed).

Unimproved hunting roads aren't that bad...
I still say ULK. saves money for ( can't remember if the ULK comes with them) UCAs, new tires/wheels, sounds and whatever aesthetic mode he wants to do.

    .
Well, in that case I agree with Cody, ICONs would be overkill, with the 5100/LR setup, he can go up to 3inches of lift depending on coils used, the truck will handle damn near anything he throws at it, just figure out what size rims and tires would look good for what ever lift he is thinking and you're good to go.
