Has anyone had any experience with the IVD coating offered by Icon? That is the only coating I see offered for protection of the threaded body.

Also booting the shocks is one of the cheapest protection you can buy to prevent pitting of the shock shafts and reduce the likelihood of seal failure and leaks. Highly recommend it.

Love the idea with the shrink wrap. Very clever!

Thankfully my bed setup is done. One of the few areas on the truck that hasn't required any attention since 2009. :)

These are two years old. I had some rust show on a previous set that were replaced by Icon. That was before the wraps.

What is everyones opinion on the FOX DSC adjusters? Gimmicky or useful?

They would be going on a fairly multipurpose truck, 40% highway, 50% rough dirt/washboard roads, 10% slow crawling.

What I am really looking for a setup built to specifically handle washboard roads, but still soak up the bigger hits from potholes, ect.

I really liked mine for the couple months I had them. The ability to adjust the street ride from Lexus squishy to shatter your spine rough was worth it to me. Else on long road trips I'd never hear the end of it from my parents. I however was unable to take them off road until I came across a good deal on something else. I reckon you'd make good use out of them though.

I'm loving the sound of the BP-51's. The compression and rebound adjustment spounf awesome for fine tuning your ride. For reasons stated above it seems the adjustment would be well worth the extra money on the icons, Kings or Fox IMO. We will have to add the BP-51's to this thread when they come to the states... Hopefully right around the time I'm ready to buy :D

Just a little update. I touched my UCAs just to see how this stuff has dried and it really is a thin waxy film. I personally thought it would be more like a wax coating (like a candle, somewhat harder than it is) but I believe this will work just fine and be a lot cleaner looking and attracted a lot less dirt and grime than when I had fluid film on them. A couple of you wanted to see the "color" of how it dried and here are a few shots I took in the parking garage at work this morning (kind of dark). Maybe a slight haze to it but not nearly like I thought it would be, seems pretty clear. Only time will tell how much the protect against rust so we shall see.:D

Holy crap! I just finished reading all 26 pages!!! That was definitely information overload!!! There was a question that I did see answered. Does King offer a complete kit like Icon? I'm looking for something for my 2015 DCSB 4x4, I want to do it right the 1st time and be done. Thanks!

LOL. They are called OE replacements coilovers because they are bolt in OE fitment, just like icon. Adding preload adds lift, just like icon. For extended travel coilovers, just like Icon, they pull out the shaft spacer.

Call Micah at downsouth Motorsports. He can set you up with whatever package you want at a hell of a good price.

Emotional roller coaster this thread is! I started reading at the beginning wanting Icons and by the end, I still want icons. If I did more hard core off-roading I'd opt for king CO's and Camburg uca's. It would seem that the icons have the on-road manners that I am looking for as well as more than enough off-road capability for my style. Not to mention the Icon reps seem top knotch and handle themselves very professionally. I like that. Icon will get my business. This thread has been very helpful. Thanks OP.

I've visited icons shop several times in the last year or so and I want to recognize brad and Dylan as top shelf pros. Always helpful. Responds to even my texts on weekends. Icon cares about the customer and the product we choose to buy.

Just have proper expectations that you're buying race parts. Expensive race parts dumbed down a bit for street use. If you want no headaches, zero maintenance, oem silence, go with the traditional aftermarket shocks.

Anytime you're modifying an already well engineered piece of kit you're bound to make concessions somewhere.

I set my icon cdc front and omega bypass to full soft with a rebound tweak in the rear... Riding on cloud nine!

So seriously question...why does so many people seem to think that digressive valving gives a better on-road characteristics (other than marketing material)?

Below is a graph of a shock dyno of two identical shocks, one valved with a traditional progressive valve stack, and one with preloaded shims. The Y axis shows the dampening coefficent (think of this as how much dampening the shock will do) as the shock shaft velocity speeds up across the x axis. For around town, the fastest shock speeds you're going to have are hitting railroad tracks or speed bumps. The whole concept of digressive valving characteristics is the shock dampening gets smoother as the shaft speeds up, but the early dampening coefficient spike means it's a bumpy ride initially.

I have. I've also rebuilt, revalved, and tuned them. That's why I asked. I don't understand it at all.
In fact Icon has had so many calls about it that they offer "low speed" valving option.
Perhaps people just trying to justify their spending money.
But for the record that's the type of answer I expected. Thanks.

I don't think you're going to get a response that'll satiate you. What do you expect owners to say? It really is totally fine except for the first tenth of a second when I go over a rumble strip due to the digressive design?

Drive them all. Tires, driving style, climate, age of shocks, all these things come into play. Graphs can't be driven and enjoyed unless you're that kind.

Satisfy me? It's a subjective question! I'm trying to understand why people have compared to, King for example, and stress that Icon has better street behaviors. I've dealt with both, ridden in both, tuned both and I know where my subjective preferences stand as well as objective. My question was what are the subjective preferences for those that have icons and can compare it to something other than that. If you don't have anything to offer except "go drive them," go away.
