I installed mine a couple of days ago useing the easy method. The install was a piece of cake. I also left the sway bar intact. I just sort of held the spring up while slipping the shock out. A big thanks to the OP for making this info available.

Just used this method yesterday. It is necessary to loosen LCA bolts to frame. Wasnt necessary for me to remove sway bar. If you utilize the jack properly and take your time, this method is great. Took me almost one hour per side. Thanks OP!

Now I just have to get the alignment and hope its not too far out.

so can I get around paying the 100$ for toytec assembling the coils and shocks by using this method? OR do you still need them assembled to do this?

Have done 2 coil spring compressor method jobs.
Just did this meathod in the driveway, way, WAY easier than the compressor ordeal. Never felt in danger of the springs doing anything wrong. Unlike using a spring compressor, which has you handling a cranked down spring when you switch springs, you never touch the springs when it's " loaded". Just yank out the old one and stick in the new stuff.
In my case, 5100's and 885x springs.

I plan on using this method to install my 885's to 5100's early in April. Thanks for the post!!

looking to replace shocks and add spacer lift...I do not off road at all just like the height of a lift
this will work for any Toyota strut disassembly/assembly right? I have a 2001 4runner I am adding a spacer lift to and would much rather do this than deal with the compressor method...thanks

I made the video using a 05+ Tacoma 6 lug. I have not used this method on other toyota vehicles.

So, I have no idea about an 01 4Runner.

DDD, have you heard of anyone, or tried to put a Toy Tec 1/4" spacer on with the 5100's and OME 885 springs combo?

I know if you put a 1/4" spacer up top, you will get 1/2" of lift...how can I get only an extra small amount of lift, like 1/4" or less. I was gonna do OME 884 coils, but don't want front diff vibes or CV problems.

I have used this method to add a 1/4" top plate spacer with the stock springs. It should work fine with ome 884 / 885 springs.

If you are really concerned about 1/4" of lift vs. 1/2" of lift then maybe you should get some adjustable coilovers that can be adjusted with a spanner wrench.

Alright, true, thanks. I'll look into it, although they're ideal, probably too expensive for me. I'll just do billies at 1.75 with stock for now, them go bigger in future maybe when I can get bigger tires

I wonder if this would work with the Ironman springs...

My OME 885's went in easy, piece of cake. Shouldn't have a problem.

Just to be clear, will this method be pretty much the same on my 04 Taco?

I hope so, because I'll be trying it tonight. I'll let you know if I lose any appendages...if I can still type, that is.

Didn't get to it. I got home at 8:30 pm, and had to be up at 4:50 am. So I just called it a night. I'm going to do it on Saturday.
