Some AALs can ride rough, the older, short, thick AALs were notorious for giving you a dump truck like ride post lift. The newer AALs are much better. The Wheelers and Icon 3-leaf AALs give you up to 2" of lift and ride very very smooth.

Short blocks, like 1", probably won't do a ton to wear out your leaf pack quicker but once you start going taller than that, you're giving your rear axle a lot more torque on your leaf springs and you'll start getting worse axle wrap and eventually a crapped out leaf pack.

5100s all around, aal and ome coils

if youre not picky about getting up closer to 3 and just under 2 is cool just do the 5100s @ 1.75" up front and Wheelers progressive 1.5" aal in the rear

keep in mind going up an inch in tire will give you another .5" of clearance

happy hunting man, honestly, wait till you have the money to do exactly what you want instead of basing what you could get off the money

Spacers and blocks = bad. Just dont do them, or think about it. There are pictures somehwere. Search spacers and you will probably find out why we are saying why its bad

OP from the sounds of it , it seems like you'll be a light offroader, am I right so far ? good, now get ahold of Downsouth Motorsports talk to Sonny or Marco about what your driving habits/ what you want to achieve & they'll hook you up with the right Bilsteins for your application for all 4 corners of your ride, ok now the back,if you go blocks for lift your going to spend extra $$$ on new U bolts (maybe not a deal breaker but still $$$ you don't need to spend) & plus the ride with the blocks coupled with the sorry ass soft,mushy springs is going to be a ride you'll soon learn to hate.. lift + blocks+ stock springs= the perfect storm for a shitty ride & the body roll you'll get will make a 25mph corner feel like 80mph.. thaats right people those who know me already know what I'm going to say.... " Pass on the standard AAL,& get a couple Chevy springs off an S-10 flatbed or earlier chevy trucks, it will last the life time of your ownership .......

Assuming Eibach coils with 5100's set at 0 equals about 1.6" lift on a 2nd gen DC. Would this be the best budget mild lift for the truck compared to stock? I mean will this setup loose any travel compared to stock? My understanding so far is that with just 5100's set at either 0.85, 1.75 or 2.5 I'm preloading the coil and essentially loosing travel? Would the Eibach/5100 will be a way around this? I may be completely misunderstanding all if this and I apologize in advance.
I just want something that will better accomodate 265/75/16 tires, looks a bit better, but will cause the least possible issues and wear as I need this truck to be a reliable daily driver for another 10 years. I would be ok with new UCA's as I don't want to put any uncecessary stress on the components that I really have to, because of above mentioned reasons.

Bro' you aren't going to stress anything out of the norm from what you propose... Accomodate 265's ??? I think they came stock with 265's (31x10.50x rim size roughly )

I have the same goals as the OP, as you can see from the many replies why it is so confusing, do this, don't do that, etc.. etc... minimal lift going with a 1" bigger tire, don't want body roll, no abnormal wear and tear, light off roading just to get to fishing holes, etc.... don't want to hijack, but I would like to follow the advise given here and do the same. OP, let me know what you go with in the end. thanks all

Here's how I see it. Would long travel be awesome? Yes. Would I love to have it? Yes. Can I afford it? yup. but why, you gotta think about what your getting and why. are you going to use it or are you a faggle trying to look cool. I got the bug, wanted to go big with all these plans, then got sensible and decided dropping thousands on something I will use is fine by me, but dropping any amount, big or small, on something that you will never use. . . Nope.

Compare what you want with what you actually need. Get what makes sense, not what gives you a boner.

For getting to and from fishing holes or whatever you're just fine stock. If you want a little more clearance, get some 5100s and an aal. If you plan on doing something a little more serious, go full OME or higher. . .

Just my view though, I'm sure someone will say "nuh-uh" real quick

Not gonna say "nuh-uh"... I was just gonna ask you for some charitable $$$$ for a senior citizen who is in a very real desperate situation regarding auto repairs that is just too much for him to come up with & can't work full time at all because he cares for his 82 year old disabled mother which takes up most his time, I mean , seeing how you are financially solvent & all....

Well said!!!

P.S. Don't do blocks! You put a fridge in the back of these trucks and it looks like you are towing a trailer. I had blocks for about 2 weeks and took them off just as fast as i put them on.

Thanks, but you haven't seen my fishing holes, not uncommon to ground out on some of those rocks with deep mud on either side. I do like a good boner as much as the next guy though

its crazy ive looked at this site before and researched every where but i still felt like there wasn't much about mid range stuff and now that i sign up and leave one post theres so many opinions in 5 hours i love it. it would be awesome to go long travel too drop quite few grand on some fox coil overs with piggy backs fiber glass body a race motor but what i think i got out of this is im in no rush i think ill wait just one more year on the lift and do it right. all new coil overs, new rear struts, and AAL. for this year i think im just going to get my little bit bigger tires do some other cheap little things to keep me happy and go from there. being an electrian i have to travel an hour or more away daily and who knows, dont want to be having a crappy ride at 4 in the morning because i got a cheap lift and only every single road around here has 6 inch deep pot holes every where so that kills a truck even more with a lift. thanks everyone.. sorry for any disappointment of probably not lifting it this year haha ill be sure to put some pictures up sometime especially if i lift it

Assuming Eibach coils with 5100's set at 0 equals about 1.6" lift on a 2nd gen DC. Would this be the best budget mild lift for the truck compared to stock? I mean will this setup loose any travel compared to stock? My understanding so far is that with just 5100's set at either 0.85, 1.75 or 2.5 I'm preloading the coil and essentially loosing travel? Would the Eibach/5100 will be a way around this? I may be completely misunderstanding all if this and I apologize in advance.
I just want something that will better accomodate 265/75/16 tires, looks a bit better, but will cause the least possible issues and wear as I need this truck to be a reliable daily driver for another 10 years. I would be ok with new UCA's as I don't want to put any uncecessary stress on the components that I really have to, because of above mentioned reasons.
With lift coils, you loose some downtravel. You'll lose the downtravel whether you go with Eibach coils or preload your stock coils. At 1.6" of lift, it's not a huge deal, but the 3" guys are left with very little downtravel which is the reason for uniball UCA's and extended travel coilovers.

You can clear 265/75R16 with stock suspension, no lift so any lift you put on will just give you more room between the fender and the tire. Lifting 2' or under, you'll be fine with stock UCA's. Eibach coils are a good option, but certainly not your only option. 883's offer similar lift as the Eibachs but have a lower spring rate. OME 884's give you about 2" of lift and again have a lower spring rate. Both the 883's and 884's can be run with stock UCAs and can both be paired with either OME shocks or 5100's.
