I do carry weight pretty often and plan on putting a cap on later. I have TSB leafs now so I'd like to have the same strength as them.

x2! Now I just need to find time for the install. I would imagine I could get a few things done while I wait, such as installing the extended break lines. Are there any other minor things I could do if I get a free evening before I actually pick my weekend and get serious? Stuff that will save time or make the actual install go smoothly?

Only thing I can see is to get started on that tin of chew!

There's not too much you can do ahead of time as the majority of your parts are remove-and-replace. Knocking the brake lines out ahead of time isn't a bad idea, but since the truck will be up in the air when you do the leaf pack and shocks, you can also just wait. Take a look at the truck, if anything looks rusty or might be a pain to get off when you decide to wrench, give it a spray a day or two before hand.

A buddy and I did the front shocks/springs and UCAs, as well as rear shocks and AAL in about 6 hours with a nice lunch in between, moving at a comfortable pace (read: beer and cigs). With a little know-how, air tools, and an extra set of hands, you can get it knocked out in well under a day.

Good deal! Some of my weekend plans fell through, so if I can rally a couple buddies for the day, it might happen

    Dan,
You're gonna love your new suspension! I just got my rig back from the alignment shop and I am blown away by the OME suspension. I got pretty much the same build as yours...minus the top plate and extended brake lines(which I may add later).
I was hoping to do the install myself, but I ended up spending the $ on the piece of mind to have a pro do it. It was worth the money to me, and I think I made out alright ($445 including alignment:D). Only took Scott at SBC Engineering 5 hours in install everything...pre-assembled 885's, Dakars, rear shocks, LR UCA's, axle shims and the CB drop.

Here's a couple before and after pics...the 265/65/17s look tiny. But for now, they have decent tread life and I can't justify spending more money on tires when I don't really need them yet.

    Good luck with your build!

Thanks for the reply, and wow! those tires do look tiny. Do you have any vibrations after installing the lift? I'm in the same boat - I have way to much tread life on these 265s to get rid of them right away, and I'm broke for the next little bit haha! Thats not a bad price for the install and the alignment. I've been back and forth on the installation topic, but I paid the extra $100 to have the shocks and coils pre-assembled from Toytec, and from what I've researched, that part seems to be one of the more daunting tasks of the entire thing. Between myself and a couple of my buddies, there is no reason why we wouldn't be able to figure out the install successfully. In general, it should just be out with the old, in with the new. Your truck looks nice! Post pics when you go up to 33's!

    Thanks!
Luckily, I haven't noticed any additional vibes. I always had some vibrations from 40mph-45mph before the lift. Now that vibration is hardly noticeable. But I have only gotten it up to around 60 mph. I did install the axle shims and CB drop...no diff drop though and my CV joints don't look too bad.

I don't see any 285's in my future. I'll probably be getting 265/70's or 275/70's when I need new rubber. The 285's definitely look the best, but the added tire and fuel costs just aren't worth it for me.

Just got my Ome lift kit from toytec this past weekend to replace my Blistens 5100 @ 1.75, Ome 885 preassemble w/ 2" aal and LR uca. No top plate, shims, differ drops, or cb. No vibration or nothing that I notice. Tested all the way to 80 mph. Just have some trouble with the new uca washer( wouldn't fit all 4 but I just hammer it with the help of a flat screw driver). Remember to tighten all your bolts although I didn't have any torque wrench I Just make sure my was super tight. If you have any ? Let me know. Sorry no pics at this moment until I have time.

Good to know. I purchased the diff drop, carrier bearing drop, and axle shims. Have yet to decide what to install. I suppose I will install all 3, and if i have vibes after that i will troubleshoot.

Don't worry, I will have TW up and running during the install should I have any questions or run into any issues! I'd like to see pics when you get a chance

In my experienced after installing lifts ( all OME lift ) on 4 of my buddies taco and mine( all taco are 2005+ and does not install any of these items below) without no vibration or shudders , I think you should not install the cb, differ drop, or shims after the lift if you develop any vibration or shudders then use those option to solve it. You don't have to do what I said but it's your choice and your car so do whatever you like. Thanks.

In regards to vibes...I had a very minor vibe at 50-60. I could notice it, but no one else could. I did order the CB drop. I had a buddy at the toyota dealer install it. With a lift and air tools, it took less than 2 minutes. Without the aforementioned lift and air tools, I could see it taking 5 minutes tops. It cured what little vibes I had.

As for shims, I have no experience with them. Thankfully, I haven't needed them. From the info here on TW, they don't seem too hard to install.

And for diff drop. General consensus is not needed as it is not that effective.

And as Sporty Taco eluded to, you may not need any of them. There are many people on here that do and don't need them, so it is on a very individual basis. Put the lift on and see if any vibes pop up. You can "throw parts at it" as needed.

Okay, thanks for the insight fellas. I will take your advice and install things only as necessary, it makes more sense to do it that way instead of installing things if they're not needed.

Mine goes on tomorrow! :woot: I'll let you know if I run into any problems doing mine. Does anyone know if you need anything to separate ball joint on the UCA from the spindle when installing the new UCA's? I'm trying to get all the tools together today that I will need to do the install. I'm doing mine at work so I need to make sure I have everything with me.

Murph, is there a specific installation thread(s) you will be referencing during your installation? I've been reading this thread from bjmoose and it seems like it will be helpful when the time comes, but he has a regular cab (vs. double cab - not sure if there are any major differences for a lift install): http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/su...talls-full-ome-kit-rear-brake-lines-pics.html.

A list of tools would be very helpful too, if anyone can compile something like that for us.

Also, is there a way to change the title of a thread once its created? It'd be nice to change the title to something different so people know what this thread is becoming, I'm halfway tempted to abandon my mediocre build thread and just use this one from here on out!

I just noticed you have different markings on your springs than me. I hope I didn't get the wrong dakars. Yours have a circle with an arrow on one and a plus with an arrow. My set doesn't have the circle just a plus on each one and an arrow on one. wtf?
