Identifying my lift..

I'm trying to learn about what kind of lift my newly bought truck has so that I can remove it... It is a 1998 4x4.

From this FAQ it doesn't look like it is a spacer lift.. and since the coils are blue I assume they aren't the stock ones anymore.. Was it just a complete aftermarket kit? Can you guys infer anything from these pictures? Any idea how high this lift is? The back doesn't look like a block lift or that they added a leaf.. so I guess they just fully replaced them?

Obviously I'm going to get smaller tires when I remove the lift because they'll definitely rub.







Also, are these basically the stock tires from 1998 4x4's?

scratch that thought you were efering to the tires currently on your truck. the ones in the other picture apear to be close stock. The stock size i beleive was 265/70/16.

 

And why get rid of em?

oh good call.. Wiped away some dirt and it says fabtech ft 2300... So this I guess? Which says it can be 0" lift though the instructions say 1-3".. Hmm

So I guess my options are either order a stock kit or take these off and try to reduce it to the 0 setting..

 

Truck looks good IMO. Why lower?

Those look like stock rims. But try Craigslist and they usually have stock stuff on there.

Yeah I'd check Craigslist, I saw a set on the Dallas one today for a set of those I'm sure there are some for sale on there.

 

You might see someone sell them here, but yes, craigslist, or a Toyota salvage place, but they will charge too much for them.

The stock tires for that wheel are 265/70-16, as someone else pointed out.

The stock leaf pack had three leafs plus an overload. It looks like yours no longer has an overload leaf at the bottom (which is thicker and arches downward).

But something to consider: the stock leafs suck shit. Soft and wear out. If you want to get back near stock height, Wheeler's Offroad offers sets made by Alcan (4-pack), or you could could contact Alcan directly, and they will make a set to your spec. Wheeler's can also get you the stock progressive coils, if that is what you want.

 

Fantastic, thank you. So I'll probably need a new leaf pack for the back but for the front I can just lower them as low as they can go and it should be close enough to stock? It seems relatively easy to lower the front.. Just screw it down.. Obviously don't have the tool but it doesn't seem impossible without it.

I'm not familiar with those coilovers, but yeah, I guess if they are for zero to 3.5 lift, that should work.

I would not "just remove a leaf." From the looks of the kit and your truck, someone removed the overload and installed an add-a-leaf. Without the stock overload spring, your truck's stock payload capacity is compromised, so if you intend to carry loads at or near stock payload capacity, you really need to get a leaf pack with an overload spring.

And ignore all those guys who recommend that you do things to your truck that suits their needs...

 

The leaf pack looks like a pro comp lift spring IMO. It has the anti wrap spring on the bottom instead of the Overload.


Also you can buy the spanner wrench for those coil overs on eBay
